The Big Sounds Of The Drags
Capital Records put this out way back in 1963. We had a huge console stereo unit at home that my dad used to play this on. My brothers and I used to fight for the best spot...sitting with our eyes closed...we could almost SEE the cars racing down the strip! The next best thing to weekends at Detroit Raceway!!!
Listen through your headphones for the best effect! Side 1 Side 2 Enjoy!!! Randy

I have two drag racing vinyl albums, Indy Nationals 1963 and Bakersfield 1964. Great sounds and it's fascinating to listen to the announcer on the PA system. They spun those hard slicks through the 1/4 in those days and the sound of the 392s at max throttle through the run, fading as they head down-track, gives me goose-bumps. Sounds great on my '80s Sony stereo (new needle several years ago).

Nothing like a blown hemi on alcohol/nitrous from 10 feet away. I took my son up to Norwalk (dragway in NW Ohio) and we stood about 10 feet off the track while everything from tuners, to alcohol dragsters, to 9 second muscle cars did thier burnouts on a Friday night test-n-tune.

I bought that album in the early 70's, it was in the dollar bin.

I have 3 of those and one record with the sounds of LeMans. Both are very good.

Have them and a few more like the Winter Nationals, early Grand Prix sounds, etc. Shop wall decoration but might be worth dusting off.

Buddy's older brother (Lloyd), used to play that lp for us.
He ended up being a mechanical genius, in spite of it. He also let me ride my first motorcycle. A Henderson. I crashed it. On the schoolyard. |
