Great 911 shot in 80's BMX magazine
Not sure about you guys, but I lived for this mag when I was 13 or so. Fell in love with SC's long before and couldn't wait to get a piece of all that SoCal action...
This one's for you MTO. ![]()

What do you mean, SETTLE?!! I dreamt about getting a Mongoose Californian and finally did. My best friend had a Redline and we were in constant competition.
I knew there would be other believers out there. Sorry to all who feel this is off topic, but it's this kind of conditioning that has made me a life-long fan of the marque. This mag had the full respect for Porsche and was always dropping in bits here and there.

It wasn't a new Mongoose and in my neighborhood Redline was the one to have. The first car I jumped over was a Corvair. We weren't good enough to race real BMX so we just built jumps and did stupid things like jumping over cars and younger kids.
I see the kids aroung my home now are riding "choppers". Man, you can't jump a chopper!!!!.............or can you? Hmmmmmm.

Guys, anything late 70s early 80 BMX (including magazines) are worth a chunk of change now.
I had a Redline and a GT Pro Series, but dreamed of a PK Ripper or QuadAngle. ![]()

This brings back so many memories,
Ha it's R.L. Osborne jumping a Porsche. As I recall R.L. stands for Racoon Lips. I wonder what he does now? The laws of gravity never seemed to apply to that guy. If you're out there R.L. chime in. I even had this exact issue. I remember thinking "Someday I'm gonna have a 911 and jump it." I also recall a drawing in another issue of a 911 with a lift kit on it. Happy Thanksgiving, JB |

Wow! That brings back memories. I remember that pic. I too had a Mongoose (Supergoose) tricked out with Z-rims, a Uni seat, a rotor, etc. Guess I had the mod bug early on. I still love to see how high I can bunny hop on my mountain bike.

Best bike I had was a decked out GT Pro / Araya 7x/ and Shimano / SR setup. Looking back, that was some good stuff. Got jacked out of my garage when I left the door open one day...

I had two Redlines. My first was a 700P. It was stolen along with my friends Redline. I have always wanted another one.

It was all about the GT Pro Series TEAM and the Robinson Pro TEAM.
The basic TEAM mods: 3-piece cranks Sealed Mohawk High-flange hubs Thin-wall chromoly tubing 44 tooth sprocket Bikes were $899 new in 1996 ... a fortune to a kid. |

Wow, 1996? It was like, 1984 for me when I built that GT. I remember it being over $500 at the time for all that crap.
Parents hated me for it.... rjp

I built a few, too. My favorites:
Kastan Pro - DK neck, SUN rims w/Suzie sealed hubs, Bullseye 2-piece cranks, cut down Robinson bars, Uni seat/post composite combo Auburn (GT made 2piece frame ... chromoly fron and aluminum rear ... flexed a lot): SE landing gear forks, DK neck, Answer alumilite bars, GT 3-piece cranks, JT spurs (chain tensioners), Arayas with Suzie sealed hubs, GT power series 44 tooth sprocket, GT seat/seatpost Damn I miss that Auburn ... blue front triangle and black rear. Sweet...... |

wow, definitely brings back memories, I wanted a PK Ripper so badly, but had a pretty sweet Diamond Back Silver Streak, then got a Super Streak but still lusted for the PK Ripper. Finally got a chance to but by then Hutch was bad ass and got one instead, damn nice bike, but always wondered if I should have gotten the PK Ripper instead.

Wow, I wanted a Pk also. I had an FMF in steel, they later went to aluminum. I think I had redline bars, I had sealed bearing hubs but they were not the top of the line? 3 piece cranks, what was the hot goose neck called? it was a big block of aluminum....It rreally was the start of my wrenching/modifying sickness ;-))
