NAMM Roll Call

Just got my hook-up yesterday. Not getting a media badge this time, but I'm a guest of NAMM's media boss. Minutes ago I got a note from Greg Howe's PR rep, telling me he'll be playing with Victor Wooted and Dennis Chambers at an evening event put on by D'Addario. Worming my way into this one is a top priority. I think Greg's rep. will hook me up. But if not, anyone have any connections here? I knew Greg when I was a kid, but haven't seen him since I was 15. I'd love to reconnect, but more importantly, want to see him jam with Victor and Dennis. Nostatic, Wolfe, Ian, Slodave? Buehler?

I got word via Wolfe to watch my inbox for a pass. :)

We should try and plan a dinner one of the nights.

nostatic 12-13-2012 09:11 PM

I'm in. I will ask Anthony if he's coming out and see about Victor. Always nuts at NAMM though.

The jam with Victor and Dennis is on Thurs. night, don't know where. I usually take Friday off and go then, since Sat. is just a madhouse. So I can go Thurs. after work and catch that jam if I can worm my way in. Really want to see that. I've seen Victor walking around the main floor before and jamming at a few booths, but not been to one of the organized shows at night.

Check.

We get in on the 19th. There for nine days.

I will be there, of course. We have a bigger booth & a new line - Moon Pro - which is a mic pre at this point. After hours? Liquor, food & comfortable chairs are always our only priority.

Todd - did you get the email from NAMM?

I am in frozen Montreal today so Anaheim sounds pretty appealing.

For the curious...what is NAMM?

Rick Lee 12-14-2012 06:18 AM

It's the ultimate candy store for musicians and music buffs. It's like the SHOT show, but for the music biz. Pure sensory overload.

NAMM Show - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's SEMA for music.
The wife works in the biddness so I used to go every year, but it got to be a hassle with the crowds and long drive (8 miles) so I haven't been in years.

The NAMM Show is one of the largest music product trade shows in the world, founded in 1901. It is held every January in Anaheim, California, USA, at the Anaheim Convention Center. Its only major competitor is the Musik Messe in Frankfurt.

NAMM is a trade-only business show catering to domestic and international dealers and distributors, and the product exhibits are an integral part of the show, allowing the dealers and distributors to see what's new, negotiate deals and plan their purchasing for the next 6 to 12 months. Only employees of the exhibiting manufacturers and/or NAMM member retailers and distributors are allowed to attend, along with credentialed members of the press. Exhibitors are alloted a specific number of badges based on the square footage of their booth, after which a $25 fee per badge is assessed. Dealers are allowed a certain number of badges based on different criteria.

The acronym NAMM originally stood for the National Association of Music Merchants, but has evolved from a national entity representing the interests of music products retailers to an international association including commercial, reseller members, affiliates and manufacturers.

Hi Ian,

Yes, the Santa NAMM came early :D

I don't know that I'll get down there Thu night - likely try and go Fri. Depends on what is going on with the day job. Right now I dont' have any gigs booked that weekend but that probably will change. I will talk with Ant Tuesday and see if I can get any info on the Thu night jam. I don't have much juice, but I did stay at Vic's house earlier this year :p

Well, it looks like my dance card is full for all nights. I arrive Monday. Setup, 2 manufacturer dinners, TEC Awards, a hockey game Saturday & breakdown Sunday.

Anybody else going to the awards? I will be at or near a bar in the sponsor's lounge since we popped for a Bronze sponsorship surprisingly. Pete Townsend is getting the Les Paul Award.

Ian
