Les Miserables?
Anyone gonna see this? Seen previews and they seem to be okay with non professional singers shooting for the high notes. On stage the show is amazing. The 150 year old story is ageless. I'm passing on the film.

Saw the real thing at a true theater.

I'm sure it's really good, but I have just never been interested in musicals for some reason. If they didn't sing, I would probably see it.
|
Hubby and I going to give it a shot. More intriguing when I learned that the singing was filmed live on the set and not in a studio. They "say" it's never been done before...

Saw it last night... it was good, I liked it. Definitely some things I didn't like but overall they did a good job.
I do think that anybody who likes Les Mis should see the movie. It was really cool to see it played out with so much close-up emotion, and see the whole thing played out from a 360 perspective instead of just one angle facing the stage. SPOILERS TO FOLLOW (re: performance/opinions) Hugh Jackman did better than I expected. I thought he gave a really good performance. Anne Hatheway - her singing on its own can't compete with Broadway stars, but her overall performance was amazing. Serious acting chops, she blew me away. Russel Crowe was the wrong choice for Javert. Good voice, but it wasn't right for the part. Eponine - I can't remember the actress' name, but she was in the 25th anniversary concert. When she goes into I Dreamed a Dream it is night and day compared to the film actors. Sasha Baren Cohen - I thought he did a really good job Helena Bonham Carter - I had really high expectations for her, and I was disappointed. Not "bad," but just not great. Marius - this dude can sing. Amanda Seyfried - I never like the Cosette part anyway, so I can't say much. But I'd say she did a good job. There were a couple story changes they made that I found very annoying. And they cut a couple small parts from some well-known numbers. One pissed me off, the other I was actually glad because that part had always bugged me anyway. I enjoyed it, and once it comes out we'll buy it. But we'll always jump at the chance to see it live. |

As mentioned earlier we went to see it and LOVED it! Both of us have never seen the play so no comparisons being played out while we watched. I thought the acting performances were AMAZING!
Anne Hathaway blew me away! Her vocal performance was raw and drenched in pure emotion. Hugh Jackman was just was phenomenal! Acting was brilliant, vocals were decent, not broadway worthy but a job well done. I agree that I wasn't overly impressed with Russell Crowe and Helena Bonham Carter. I really enjoyed her in The Barber of Seville with Johnny Depp. The young man that played Marius was impressive and his vocals were excellent. Have to say we came home and right away started on Youtube with clips of performances from Broadway. We are truly sad that we missed the chance to it see it! We are going back to see it again and will purchase it when released.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/clap.gif |

dont worry..it will be back. i think the production is back in San Fran, right now. it is great live. |
Wife and I just watched it, thought it was great. The acting was very powerful, and the voices were very well done. I sort of hesitated about going, but as usual was glad I did.

I have watched a few musicals over the years. That helped me to decide that I had already seen enough musicals. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Maybe after I sell my 911 and buy a Miata those movies will interest me more!:D:D:D
