Landcruiser 100 Series

Wife has decided she wants a 100 series. Which is fine by me, I like too.
Can anyone give me the quick and dirty on them? I know little.
Things like what to look for. Preferred year models. Mileage to look for. Expensive maintenance I should expect. Etc.

Thanks,
Skip

Trailer wiring recall
Rattle noise: cat shields
Leaky CVs
Front end vibrations at speed
Code PO505 / Throttle body dirty
Throttle Position Sensor / Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor problems (low power etc)
Fuel smell inside the cabin
VSC problem

Nothing really. I wanted one for a long time. I had an 80 series and it was bullet proof until the head gasket developed a little hole in it.

They don't have a fatal flaw, just make sure the timing belt is done at 90k (if I remember correctly) or budget accordingly. I came really close to buying one a while back. Much better power and better MPG than the FZJ80, with 90% of the off road ability. Very well made and will run forever, there are many with 200-300k with no major work. ih8mud.com is a simply fantastic forum, go browse the FAQ in the 100 series forum and you'll learn a LOT. No rear A/C on the 1998 models, and the rear differential lock was only available in '98/'99 if you have hardcore off-road aspirations. 2003 was the first major facelift, 2006 was the second, both of these represent a big price jump over the previous model. Also look at the Lexus LX470, which was the Lexus version of the UZJ100 Land Cruiser. Similar pricing for more luxury.

Thanks guys.
Been browsing ih8mud. Lots of info.
Finding & buying a used (non-Porsche) vehicle stresses me out. :)

ih8mud is the only forum that matches the technical knowledge that we have here on Pelican, at least in my experience. Lots of great DIY info, lots of guys that really know their stuff, and all in an adult environment. It made owning my FJ80 a much easier experience.

I traded my FJ80 for a FJ100. I loved my 80 but she was a bit slugglish. The power and torque difference was my deciding factor although I prefered the 80 body style.

The only issue I have had with my 100 is a bad starter and O2 sensors. To replace that starter you have to remove the intake manifold. There is just not enough room although some claimed to have done job without doing so....The O2 sensors were a breeze to replace.

I see 100's for sale all the time on CL here in Houston. If you find one in my neck of the woods, just let me know and I can take a look at it for you!

Good luck on your search!
