M.I.L. Blew $2500 Worth Of Medicine

I need your advice.........My daughter receives around $10k medicine each month. My wife orders some of it to be delivered on last Tuesday. We go out of town to take my daughter skiing and got back today. My wife's mother was watching our house and was instructed to open the packages ( box and and foam ice chest ) and put the medicine in the refrigerator. The package contained PULMOZYME and must be kept below 47 degrees. The pharmacy sent two medicines, one does not require refrigeration and the PULMOZYME does. Guess which one was left at room temperature for 3 days? Wife is Pissed at her mom. Max time at room temperature is 24 hours.

Call your pharmacist and see if they can help any.. sucks but you are going to have to buy it again. Has your doc or pharmacist been able to get you any help from the pharma cos on drugs costs?

does the mother in law have $2500 to spare?

if not it's a practical impossibility to have knuckles and rocko break her legs. you'll just have to eat the cost.

No emergency #s, that sucks. Can you shoot an email to the doc as urgent and see what help you get?

If you need it right away, go to an urgent care center - they will have a pharmacy attached that is open and should be able to help.

Getting upset with family that helps you out is probably not the best reaction albeit understandable. I would make sure they make peace before everyone goes to bed. I am sure MIL is upset about her mistake too.

if it is that important, why wouldn't you have some extra to last you a week? if it's an emergency, an ER doc should be able to send an electronic prescription. then you just need to get it filled by whoever has it.

Here in LA many urgent care clinics are in a hospital or part of a hospital operatoin and have a pretty big pharmacy attached. There will someone be there who knows who else is open in the area that may have it. OP is from the Dallas area - pretty big metro area - I'd imagine this being a possible path - definitely better than calling numbers where nobody picks up.

Good Luck.

This med is mail order only due to its limited usage. We have a 2 week supply but you know it is Holiday season so 2 weeks supply is not much.

G is right that a big hospital will be your best bet. I was thinking stand alone urgent care....

Not going to be cheap though.

+1

I understand why she would offer to pay for it now, but accepting her money is not the right thing to do IMHO. I'm sure she feels pretty bad about what happened... Bummer. Schit happens.

Just call Monday morning. Call the doc for a script. It can be faxed to the pharmacy. Pharmacy will be open on Monday, too. But do it early, as most doctors' offices and medical clinics and such will close early. If the pharmacy is in a different time zone (i.e. East Coast) keep that in mind, too.

I don't know how it works there, but here as long as it's not a controlled substance the pharmacist can re issue it, often they do it at a discount if it's never happened before.
Worth calling and asking.

Not putting miles on your car is like not having sex with your girlfriend, so she'll be more desirable to her next boyfriend.

MIL feels line shinola I'm sure, unless she has issues. The safe bet would be to have put both in the fridge, unless that was bad for the other med.

Offer to send it back before the pharmacy can send another one? Paying all costs of course.

Your house insurance might cover the cost of the meds, but it will be subject to your deductable and prob a increase in your rates for the next year.

As mentioned a big hospital should have some in stock if you are running low for your daughter.

Next time, just tell her to put BOTH packages in the fridge. Future problem solved.
Pharma should be able to help you. I am sure this isn't the first time something like this has happened...
