Help me id and value grandfathers spoons

Hey there, I have two spoons from my grandfather that I need help in identifying and valuing.
First one: Hopkins and Allen Mfg. Double Action 38
Second one: I think is a Smith and Wesson 32 cal. It's tough to read the fine engraving on top of the barrel.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Richard

You may have to wait until the new year. Tabs is doing the rounds of the Christmas dinners at the casinos.

Funny, I thought he was busy picking up a few extra sheckles playing Santa at the Vegas Fashion Towne Center.

I'm away from my Blue Book but I think they will mostly have sentimental value.

Thanks Jim... Let me know if you get the chance to blue book them.

Best regard,
Richard

I'm with Jim on this. I have a pair of real pearl grips for the Hopkins and allen though.. The timing is always an issue on the old H&A guns, so I would be cautious about shooting it. I think the bottom one could be a 32 rim fire, but if it's a S&W it would be a 32 S&W and that is a center fire cartridge.

Smith and Wesson.........

Pretty sure that the early (1st and 2nd model) Smiths were all rimfire guns. The grips on the Smith appear to be a set of home made phenolic grips. The original grips and/or reproduction grips are usually available here and there. The Smith also looks like it may have been reblued which could be why the barrel markings are faint. Always nice to have old family hand downs though!

The second model Smiths were made in both rimfire and centerfire in 38 caliber.

Your grandfather's guns... that's the most important thing right there... Clean them, oil them up and keep them to pass down as a family heirloom. Put any pics or documents that you have from your grandfather with them... Very special!

I'm not sure what to say about your Hopkins & Allen. They were kind of like the Crescent Firearms of revolvers (manufactured with many trade names). Perhaps it's a Forehand model, $190 in 100%, $75 in 60%.

I think your Smith is .32 Single Action (Model 1-1/2 Centerfire). One of the later ones w/strain screw. They made about 100k of them from 1878-92.
Worth more than I thought, 100% $750, 60% $250.

Thanks Jim for the info...much appreciated. I have very few things from my ancestors, holding on to those objects is like holding a piece of them.
