Subaru Crosstrek
Interesting vehicle.
Appears to have the off-hwy ability of a Forester but smaller and with much better cornering ability; should be more fun to drive. It does need an engine tho - and a nice turbo motor will likely be added after the intitial launch year, or DIY. My view of off-road vehicles is I'd really prefer one I can sleep in (Syncro); have spent way too many years (as a biologist) beating my body around on bad or no roads to think of it as fun; and always need to drive to the hwy terminus first. if #1 above is ruled out, this might be a contendah 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek Review: Car Reviews |

Very nice.
I even like the color of this one.

yup...desperately needs a turbo w/ a transmission that can handle it. The 4 speed auto in the outbacks and foresters of yore are pretty crummy.

I've had Subarus for years, always were (WERE) very impressed, but noticed a dramatic drop in quality with my 2011 Forester turbo. Be aware.
