FJ-40 in Gainesville

Does anyone have the bandwidth to take a look at a 1976 Toyota FJ in Gainesville, Fla or know/recommend anyone that does?

Also, any recommendations on Pelican-like sites to post on? I have been to IH8MUD, etc...any others?

Thanks in advance.

That is only about 45 minutes from me, but still in the thick of my busy season, which makes even short out of town trips a challenge.

Paul,

I may be able to help. I have some Soldiers down that way that I could coordinate a tire-kicking for you. How much expertise are you looking for?

General car knowledge, look for rust, etc. I spoke with the guy and feel good about the car...the key with these things are rust.

Lunch and beer are on me...just don't tell them I'm a Squid!

Paul,

Ask K9Torro. He was willing to help me on a car I was looking at down there.

Im in Gainesville, and off work until 1/4. Actually out between high spring and alachua

I'm not sure if my local repair place can/will do a PPI for you or not ... I do have a place for p-cars, and a good body work place for evaluating p-cars, but not so much anything else beyond the place that takes care of my nissan altima.

What you really need is some sanity. Nonetheless, post pics if you buy it and we can all indulge our own craziness, vicariously.

Let me know if you ever find one around here... no, wait - do NOT let me know...

If its the tan 76 I'd want lots of pictures. I've had 4 of them, the driver side rocker and quarter don't look right to me. I would not buy one with diamond plate corners on it. Ask around on ih8mud I'm sure someone there know that FJ and will be glad to help out.

Mums the word, except the one in Philomath.

I may need a storage place until the Spring....

I have been poking around FJ's for years, trying to figure out the right mix of original and conversion.

I want pretty much what I had in the 356 I just sold: An honest, minimal rust, driver car with good, original running gear, upgraded brakes and power steering, not lifted to the moon.

There are some really amazing diesel conversions available, but if we go that route I want to do it. This will be my Son's car when he graduates so safety is paramount.

We'll see. The market for these things is very interesting, all over the map in terms of price and condition.

it was a jagged pill to swallow. i want the same thing you want. big lifts was a deal breaker. loud hotrodded V8? move along..nothing to see.
