I wanted to share this article from Hagerty. I plan to go to more diverse car events for 2013! That's my resolution.

New Year’s resolutions, like the fine china— they’re for breaking, right? Well, hopefully not. At any rate, these should be a lot more fun than cutting out reality TV and fatty foods or getting a gym membership. Here are five of our favorites:

1. Buy and preserve an unrestored car: Nicely preserved unrestored cars occupy a special place in the classic car world. As the old saying goes, “it’s only original once.” And although awareness of the uniqueness and value of these cars is on the rise, appreciation for them is still not that widespread. So this year, go find an unmolested, original paint, original interior survivor-type car, preserve its originality and see if your favorite car show has a preservation class. If not, suggest that they start one.

2. Have a constructive dialog with a Prius owner: It seems like Prius drivers have acquired the reputation of being not particularly friendly to the internal combustion engine (even though the Prius sports a small one). Strike up a conversation with a Prius driver and try to find some common ground. Maybe there’s a former VW Beetle or Microbus owner with a great story or two behind the wheel of that Prius.

3. Give back to the hobby: The wheels of the old car will grind to a halt without another generation to pick up the torch. Resolving to give a little back by taking a kid to a car show, participating in programs like the Hagerty Driving Experience, donating to the The Collectors Foundation or supporting the efforts of the Historic Vehicle Association are good places to start.

4. Have a new automotive experience: As car people, some of us tend go with what we know and stay in our comfort zone, going to the same events every year and paying attention to the same makes and models. For those who resist a new experience, think of the book that so many of us enjoyed as kids — “Green Eggs and Ham.” Porsche people, try a Corvette; Corvette guys, give a Porsche a spin. Mopar people, check out a Mustang. And so on. Who knows, you might like it if you try it.

5.Take a road trip in your classic: Few things are more rewarding in life than getting off the Interstates and the blandness that goes with them and seeing the small towns and sights that are America in a classic car, truck or motorcycle.

I resolve to finish my RSR even if I end up moving to a new state in the middle of the build.

Get my freaking M3 done and drive it!!!! It needs four wires to be connected through relays, exhaust, cooling system.

2. Really enjoy what I have in my garage instead of lusting after what is in someone else's

I need to do the same thing. I will get my track car back together, it's been way too long.

I have driven it once since he died a year and a half ago, put maybe 5 miles on it, then put it back into a storage unit. So in 2013, I'm going to drive Dad's SS. I'm going to take it on a TRIP, a real drive. The car is really far too nice to leave tucked away in the dark.

I've got a 3000 mile road trip planned for me and my SC.

I want to buy another 911 this year. As much as the 964 is a fantastically rediculous daily driver, I do find it heavy and the driving experience is a bit softened by PS, ABS and AWD. I love it, but I want something a bit more raw. Maybe and SC or a midyear.

Mine is to not do any car club stuff, keep my driver Mustang going...

BTDT with the Hagerty rule #1...it's not all they crack it up to be.

Finish all my projects including the Targa, all parts, time and money needed is actually reasonable. Finish up the bits on my newly acquired 1970 LS5 454 Chevelle and sell when the market gets right in the spring.

Then continue to buy/own/sell/enjoy classic cars, hot rods and motorcycles and make money doing what I love.

I keep hoping I am paying it forward, but I know I can only pay it back.

I have been very privileged to meet so many amazing people who happen to be car people.

Angela: I remember that build. Pretty amazing job you did there. It is way past time for you to enjoy.

Paul: The restore is close to done. The 911, in 7 years I have redone the interior (stripped completely down and redone). I redid the entire suspension earlier this year and now I am 4 months into an engine rebuild (almost done).

Lucky for me, I have never had to weld anything like you're doing Shaun.

I think if I was to add anything to the Hagerty List: It would be everyone should drive their cars. Enjoy them.

Start work on our 2 1968 912's metal rust repair. There seems to only be so much research and web surfing that can be done and to do. It's time to put up or shut up, to either get off the pot or take that proverbial #*€p.

I resolve to have the 911 back on the road this year. It's now approaching two decades off the road-I can hardly remember what it feels like to drive it.
