Nascar at Daytona
Month or so to the 500, always a good race. I always thought that the second Daytona race, the 400 would be better if run on the Daytona road course. Just like the sports cars. You'd have to set up high banks and left/ right turns. Daytona is a great track in that one can see the entire race from the stands. I'm sure the Nascar guys would be horrified but I really like the Nascar road course races and I think Daytona could provide a great race. Thoughts?

I agree YP, but doubt it will happen: - I hate to say it, but Nascar and the fans thrive on "The Big One" that only happens when they rig the rules to run in a huge pack on the Oval restrictor plate races.....

I think the NASCAR drivers would love the addition of another road course at a familiar facility. I might be one of the few fans who like watching the Watkins Glen, and Sonoma races more than the restrictor plate races that provide the "big one".
The only reason I like the July Daytona race is that it's a night race, and i'm usually camping/drinking with other NASCAR fans in my back yard where there are no rules. |

It's a toss up. Daytona probably doesn't want to mess with the "formula" and maybe hurt ticket sales. However, Daytona is the perfect venue for a new road course race. You can see the whole thing! Ticket sales have been down...probably should have made that decision last year, so it'll likely never happen.

Any nascar road race is usually ruined by hired guns. The "fans" come to see Johnson win and not a dedicated road racer like Said. The Rolex contains a few nascar stars and they do quite well (JPM) in good equipment. A good road race at Daytona is possible but the "fans" only want to see their guys win. Just my 2 cents.

I'd love to see it happen. My two favorite races of the Nascar season are the two road courses. Funny thing is the commetators, the fans and the drivers seem to love them too! The season is what 36 races? They have room for a couple more road races. Actually alot of people I speak to now are sorta tiring of the roundy-round races of late. Nothing seems to happen till the last 10 laps plus GWC.

Also, as much as I love the sports car races at Daytona and Sebring and other rode courses running so many classes takes away from the "Race" itself for me. It's just the fast guys up front and the rest of the pack of slower cars. I know well that they're all racing but I'd rather see everyone on the track competing with everyone else i.e. one class at a time. I'm most interested in Pruett, Gurney, Fogarty, Max and the rest of that class of the fastest guys.
Maybe they're making changes to that this year?? |

I'm all for the cup cars to run at Road America. I think it would make a great weekend with the nationwide cars. The road races are what I really like.

I did hear that the Nationwide series is coming to Mid-Ohio this year........that should be pretty good. Fast, tight, racing on a beautiful road circuit.

Nationwide at Montreal (Circuit Gilles Villenueve) is a great race each year. One of the best races all year, any series.

No matter Mid-ohio is a good track and I think the Nationwide cars are racier than the bigger/wider cup cars. It'll no doubt be a good race.

The Canadian government or the major sponsor wouldn't back the race any more. I might actually drive out to MO for this. It's a haul, but maybe I can do a DE before or after. That'd be cool!!

I will try to be there this year for that race. I usually make the vintage race in mid-June, but I really want to hit this one that is scheduled for August 17.

How long do you think it'll be before they can get a race scheduled down in San Antonio?
That's a pretty nice track they have down there.

Rain tires, windshield wipers, more road courses and let 'em run, wet or dry. like, as in the real world.
