Different ways to skin a cat. Kaisen is right that you don't want to pour serious money into a $3500 car but fixing the stupid little stuff moves it faster. I have probably sold 50 cars pp and still use the Kaisen method for really cheap beaters. On a nice looking car I have been more successful getting the detail work done because time is money and tire kicking lowballers annoy me. I want the car sold in the first 3 looks and a $100 detail job on a nice looking car makes em want it bad. It confirms the sale at my asking price which might be worth $500 in price negotiations. As always, YMMV

You don't have to spend $100 on a detail on a beater. An hour with your garden hose, some armor all and a vacuum cleaner will do wonders. But if you sell something north of $5k, the $100 will be a very good investment IMHO. It amazes me how many people go buy a used car and solely judge it by the cosmetics. If it looks clean, it must be a good car. I have had buyers that would not even bend over to look for drips or tire wear, leave alone popping the hood. Those people will go only by the condition, which you can greatly improve with a good home wash or a $100 detail.

I've had good luck with Craigslist, both buying & selling.
I use Craigslist for contact...no phone numbers till they mail me thru the list. A great spam killer and serious buyers will wade thru it.....you really don't want to talk to others.

Be prepared to send more pics to those that pass the "sniff test"... the sniff test is the only tough part......the only advice I can give here is your first impression of any missive is usually right. All contact till then is by email only.
No address or Ph# till they pass the test. ...you remain in charge.

Craigslist has never failed to produce a sale or a buy for me........CASH ONLY.
