FM Transmitter For iPhone 5
 

Anyone using one of these? I drive an older (2003) Ford Expedition that doesn't have an auxiliary input so I just used an FM transmitter to stream the music from my iPod and my iPhone 4S. With the Lightning connector on the iPhone 5, my old FM transmitter no longer connects with the same plug.

Does anyone make an FM transmitter with the Lightning plug? Or on the iPhone 5, do the FM transmitters plug into the headphone (audio out) jack? If so, does anyone have a recommendation on a specific FM transmitter that will yield somewhat decent sound (within the obvious limitations of the FM signal)?

There are bluetooth units that will act as a speakerphone and transmit the music via FM to the radio.

I used to use the FM Transmitter option with my iPod in my miata, but then I changed to something like this. I haven't used this one, but it says it works in a 2003 Explorer.

I just went through this. By the time you spend $75 or more on a transmitter you can buy a brand new radio that has Bluetooth streaming, hands free calling, and IPod connections , for @$ 130.00. It works so well, that I put them in three of my cars last week! The hands free phone feature itself is worth the price.

We have some older vehicles without aux inputs and have tried the FM gizmos but they sounded like total crap, and as you drive around you sometimes have to change frequencies. Now using cassette adapters in a couple vehicles, which sound much better and are dirt cheap but are pretty hokey, and obviously require you to have a cassette deck (pretty much vaporized after the early 2000's.) Don't want to replace the factory head units with aftermarket on these vehicles.

Why not use an FM transmitter which uses the headphone jack? Those are like $20!

I was very hesitant to change out the original head until also, but once I did one, it was such a huge improvement, that I bought two others and did three of my cars. And also, they come with adapter plugs so to reverse it back to stock is very easy.

Problem with changing out the standard HUs on a lot of vehicles is the fact that so many newer cars don't use standard DIN, which means the cost of an adaptor kit, which are often pretty crummy looking compared to stock, and then you're way more likely to get broken into if you don't have secure storage for your car.

I really want to put an aftermarket unit in my DD, so that I can get iPhone integration and SiriusXM, but the adaptor trim looks super-cheap and I don't want it to get stolen immediately. Also doesn't help that the one I'd be really interested in, the Pioneer AppRadio models, don't work with the iPhone5 either.
