Google Map photos......

Always liked to see the map photos of my house changing on Google maps, cars parked differently or after landscape changes etc., then I found an article about crazy stuff found on street views.

Here are a few compilations, check them out:

They just redid the photo of mine (I remembr the day of the prior). Anyway, the caught my wife and son playing in the street out front. (this is an overhead shot...)

How often does Google update the pics? Out of curiosity, I just pulled up mine...I figure it's at least 3-4 years old, and I'm a bit surprised since I followed the "google car" down my street about 6 months ago.

Just checked mine, it looks like spring of 2012.

the "search engine that shall not be named" map shows my old pick-em-up, but mapquest shows my newer 3 year old pick-em-up.

Then I went to terraserver, and found out that I could see all kinds of pictures of the place over the years. 2001, 2004, 2007, 2010 .....

Kinda cool.

OK, this is definately cool.

You can zoom in or out from outer space.

This is even better. http://streetview.fizber.com/

type in the adresss and you get the street level view, and you can turn it or move it around like you're walking through the neighborhood.

This is the same "view" (for my place) as the "unnamed", EVIL one :)....you don't think "unnamed, EVIL one" would sell their data do ya? I do find the 360 degree "walking" view to be pretty cool (been using the EVIL one for a few years), but now I need to hide...black helicopters :D

I was surprised to see so much detail of my house and back yard on the inter-webs. Course I painted it a different color since then, so no one would recognize it.

I'm still gonna tell the missus to close the drapes next time ......... ;)

Terraserver is still up? Cool.

It was a proof of concept for giant storage IIRC.

Checked out the street level of my house and there I was, working on the storm doors on the upper balcony. Picture has to be from summer of 2011. I actually think I remember seeing the Google car drive by.

I could waste a lot of time on there.

I know a guy that saw the google car, and kept checking. It took about 6 months from the time he saw it until the time that the picture of him showed up.

I've seen them several times, but never checked online to see when or if I was captured.

MS free download WorldWide Telescope has it built-in. Wild. Need a decent graphics card and proc. but you can fly around space, planets to earth to your neighborhood in imagery. You don't need to be online but for the many interactive links.

It is a Lidar image of a spot I used to live in -- the edge of a lava flow. I spent 4 years there watching animals.
