Todd Rungren fans, anyone?

I always thought he could write great pop songs. I caught him on "Live from Daryl's House" and they played at his home . I know im showing my age, but a quick youtube search and you can see he wrote a lot of great melodies. As far as Daryl Hall. I can't say I was ever a big fan, but appreciate what he is doing with the show. Its a pretty simple formula, get some talented guest and back him up with great musicians and watch!

Hello its me.

Yes before my time, but some pretty cool stuff.

TimT 01-14-2013 03:07 PM

I saw him play a few times when he was playing this guitar

I think he has made some good music.

You only love me for my machine.

craigster59 01-14-2013 03:26 PM

I always liked his solo stuff and with Utopia. I always thought he was ahead of the curve sonically.

sammyg2 01-14-2013 03:35 PM

For some reason, for me Traffic, Blind Faith, cream and Todd Rungren all seemed to be part of a bigger whole.
Woulda been cool if we could get Rungren, Winwood, Clapton, Mason and Baker all together in one band.
Of course it's probably only last 15 minutes .......

Bang on the Drum All Day...cranked way up while driving home from a tough day at work.

Rock and Roll, hoochie coo, lordie momma, light my fuse....

tevake 01-14-2013 04:49 PM

He sure did turn out some good songs. Thanks for posting the videos, He's had a house here for years. Yet I'm sure I wouldn't have recognized him if he walked right up to me.

His Wife is quite a character, and used to do a show on the local community radio. Very open about her colorful past. Very funny too!

Cheers Richard

The story of how he raised Steven Tyler's daughter is bizarre.

I wore out his live "Back to the Bars" two disc set 30 years ago.

Nostril Cheese 01-14-2013 05:30 PM

Such a great album..

Rick Derringer had his time......but he's not on the same level.;)

Buckterrier 01-14-2013 06:18 PM

And he was married to a playboy bunny.

OK, how about this. We get to pick a front man for that fantasy group. Someone who would get it, but contrast just enough to bring energy.
Daltry? Maybe. He could be strong enough.
Who's the lead singer of the babys?
Can't remember but that'd be good.
Doesn't matter if its someone who was their contemporary or is singing now.

Who could pull off being in front of all that talent and bring it out and bring it together without competing with it or conflicting with it?

PS: If anyone says mercury I'm gonna be seriously bummed.

craigster59 01-14-2013 07:32 PM

Lead singer of the Babys was John Waite. Good voice. When they were thinking of getting Faces back together and Rod Stewart wasn't hip on the idea they looked at Mick Hucknall of Simply Red, he's got an interesting voice. Paul Rodgers is no slouch either.

Good stuff guys. Been a huge Rundgren fan since his Nazz days. You do have that album, eh? :)

I have a ton of Daryl's House songs in my MP3 collection. ALL epic material.

Something with a harder edge...

911Freak 01-15-2013 12:20 PM

I saw him at Canyon Club (Agoura Hills, CA) couple years ago, ok show IMO. I went with a diehard fan who was in ecstasy the entire time. He played guitar the entire show. He had a great backing guitarist. Dude took his shirt off after 20min.... I could have lived my entire life without seeing that! Band was loud and played a 2+hr show, including all his hits. Good time. Decent chops.

Would I have gone by myself? Probably not.

NAZZ was a good band.
I listened to them back in the day.
Never cared at all for Haulin' Oats.

David McLaughlin 01-15-2013 05:01 PM

Being a MeatLoaf fan, I like Todd Rungren's songs too. The best Meat had was written by T.R.

bkreigsr 01-16-2013 04:23 AM

was there any connection with Godley & Creme?
they play a snippet of his song in the long version of 'Cry'
Bill K

89911 01-16-2013 06:37 AM

Yes, he either produced or played with them in some capacity. Talk about a lot of history. I need cliff notes for his Wikipedia site.

Yes, a high water mark of 70s music that I revisited a year or two ago. Holds up well compared to a lot of other music of the same era and recorded at a club in my hometown: "Is it Enid Oklahoma...no, its Cleveland Ohio!"

A playmate of the month to be exact Bebe something or other, I can still picture her face and other parts.

I had meatloaf for lunch, makes a good samwich. Music? Meh, not so much.

mfiazzo 01-16-2013 11:27 AM

I grew up in upper Darby PA, a block away from Todd and his family. After he became big, the rest of his family continued to live in the house in Upper Darby.

Now that's a blast from the past

Yes, he was part of the whole "blue-eyed soul" wave that came out of the Philly area.

Rundgren may be the USA's most underrated songwriter and performer. As for Darryl Hall, get his lp Sacred Songs to hear how he can stretch outside of Hall and Oates. Brilliant piece, that.
