Life Time NRA membership questions.

I've been a year to year member in the past, but I let my membership slip. I was thinking of getting a lifetime membership, but I've got a couple questions.

A) If I get a lifetime membership is it really for life? Their not going to come up with some baloney new requirements down the road to get more $$$ out me?

B) I realize the NRA is a fund raising organization. If I get a lifetime membership, are they going to be houding me like mad for donations? The last time I was a member, I got sick of their constant phone calls and mail drops. I don't mind making a good size yearly donation, but I hate people soliciting my constantly. Do they have an 'opt out' for solicitations if you are a member?

Yes!

b) They will hound you relentlessly. I don't get phone calls, since they don't have MY phone number. The email volume can be irritating

A. Yes, it's really a lifetime membership. I became a life member decades ago.

B. Yes, you will be hounded for donations. Most often through the mail, but the occasional phone call as well. It's easy to just say no...although I do donate to their ILA (Institute for Legislative Action) fund.

there is some sort of age limit on the lifetime membership. otherwise dads would be signing their infants up. but otherwise it's til death.

and the junkmail volume is tremendous.

If you are member you can access your account online and request they stop sending you solicitations and junk mail. I assume a phone call would work as well. Once or twice a year while in the EPL program I would get a notice that I could get some trinket for paying in full. The only mail I've received from the NRA in the last two years is the monthly magazine.

Yup - it's easy to "just say no" to their emails, phone calls, and mailings. They don't want to drive members away by harrassing them. I've been a life member for almost 30 years; all I get from them is The American Rifleman once a month.

It is, in fact "lifetime," or has been so far. Who knows what may change in the future.

I get a bunch of mail from them, but, frankly, no more than from my alma mater or any other charity that I donate to.

Hope this doesn't go all parfy, but: I don't really like the NRA. I think the President is a bit of a nut job. But they're the only organization I know of with any clout that's defending the second amendment. Anybody else give grudgingly?

I think there's a backorder on the free cap when joining!

I've been a lifetime member for a longtime. They don't have my phone number, I delete the email and the only mail I regularly receive is American Rifleman. I like it.

Is it really worth giving them $2500 more?

red-beard 01-16-2013 07:26 PM

$3000 actually

But....

They have special upgrade offers at times.

Ditto. I signed up for life membership about eight yrs. ago, doing an automatic debit for $25 every three mos. I want to keep supporting them, so I never stopped it once I had gotten to the $750 level for life membership. I still own a house walking distance from their HQ and used to have an annual membership to their range. All I get from them now is the magazine.
