I did not drive this one but was told that it's very fast with the supercharger. Supposedly the new regular one is faster than last year's SC model, and of course the new SC one is faster still.

HardDrive 01-19-2013 08:42 PM

Front end is awful.

Scott R 01-19-2013 08:49 PM

Not feeling it, and I'm a Rover guy.

I'd have to agree.
Not fond of the back end either.
And what's up with the gills?
I'll give it two thumbs down....but that's just me.

speeder 01-19-2013 08:52 PM

The outgoing one is quite beautiful for an SUV. This one, not so much.

Rufblackbird 01-19-2013 09:43 PM

my first impression is that it looks a bit like the Ford Edge/Explorer

The Ford is a little better looking.

Ditto.
Maybe in white...dunno.
Steering-mounted gear selector...trying to be different or purposeful?

gamin 01-20-2013 03:15 AM

N0!

Purposeful. It makes room for more cupholders.

Instrument 41 01-20-2013 04:38 AM

First thoughts...Its a Ford..

Fuggly,

The old one was meatier.

I had an old RR and a Disco, I liked them both but their steel was more prone to rust than an old Toyota

onewhippedpuppy 01-20-2013 06:52 AM

Prefer the old one but it matches their new style, ala Evoque. The farther they get away from their off road roots the less interest I have. Give me a Defender 110 and I'll be a happy man.

Sarc 01-20-2013 07:23 AM

No. There's a RR dealer next door to the studio, so I've been seeing quite a few lately. The daytime LEDs remind me of Dame Edna's glasses (the new Audis are also guilty) and the sweeping brightwork along the lower flanks make it look tubby and tail heavy. I'm not much of a new SUV guy, but one of my neighbors just brought home a black RR sport. Now that thing looks the business.

jyl 01-20-2013 07:55 AM

Ugly front. Non-descript side. Rear is the best part, kind like Jabba The Hut's rear was also his best side.

To me, those cars are the "go to" cars for people with the means that say, "I have money, I need to make that clear to anyone, I need to drive in poor conditions (maybe), and I could car less about reliability or depreciation". I think at one time they where pretty decent off road vehicles.:) Got back from Park City and saw plenty of them.

No steering-mounted gear selector

It's the round wheel flush on the center console

BReif61 01-20-2013 08:09 AM

These things are the 911's of the SUV world.

I bet non-enthusiasts will even notice the difference.

I don't know much of the mechanicals, whats with all its do-dats, how many cup holders or tv screens but first impression it looks like any other SUV, cross-over. Nothing distinctive.

Can it be ugly to some? Sure why not, look at the old 110..... but what a neat and wonderful beast!

"Jumped the shark" Just google it.

pavulon 01-20-2013 08:18 AM

I think that ^^ is the Happy Days shark jump.

Styling is 5/10. The rest of that new Range Rover is 9/10.

Styling is always subjective but I rather like it.

Styling is always subjective but my complaint is with expensive vehicles that look cheap. The newest Cayenne looks like a Mazda and this looks like a Ford.

Dan J 01-20-2013 02:17 PM

I think I'm prejudiced but every time I look at a Rover my mind says
"expensive shiitbucket" How can anyone spend their hard earned coin on one of these?

Depends on who owns it, I had 220k on my Disco and I still see it around town. Simple push rod V8, Bosch Injection and a common ZF transmission. Was easy as pie to work on too.

Ranger Rover/ Landrover and the Oz outback have never been a good combo.

They'll do one or two trips and hold up okay, but by the second trip it's usually hampered by a 5hit load of electrical faults, sensor fails, stuff loosens up and falls off, and that rubber doughnut on the prop shaft was never a good idea.

They make a great Toorak Tractor though.

You mean it's not like they show us on US TV?

There is a house in my solidly middle-class neighborhood that has TWO late model Range Rovers. And people think I'm the masochist with two P-cars. I couldn't stomach having one of those things, let alone a (matching, I might add) pair.

aigel 01-20-2013 08:12 PM

Yawn ... another SUV.

Those "gills" on the door (THE DOOR!) are really great.

Yeah, No! ;)

One day I'll have to come over there and try the Alice Springs Chicken.

Yup, my Disco 1 was actually pretty reliable. Except for a few expected leaks, I had zero mechanical issues. The key is to get the older, simple ones before they started adding all of the complicated and unreliable electronics. I'll take this:

Paul K 01-21-2013 06:56 AM

Don't like it. I had an '07 L322 which had great styling (but had to go because I got sick of taking it in for repairs) and it was a much better looking rig. They already have the Evoque & Sport, why not keep the big one looking like a proper Range Rover?

FWIW, I'm getting a Defender next.
