and still more bass porn

I don't think I posted this one yet. I ordered this back in Jan when they were first announced and I got #4 of the first run of 15. This is my first bass with a high C string and I got it to work on chords/comping and solo stuff. It was a gamble that has paid off - I love this thing. The last two lessons with Anthony we worked on basic chord stuff and I've been woodshedding running Real Book tunes with my looper, but this time comping. Got the bass about a month or so ago.

From today's trio hit:

Sunny - West Coast Blues 9sep12 by nostatic-trio-plus on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

GetUp - West Coast Blues 9sep12 by nostatic-trio-plus on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

And Friday's quintet (different players, though same drummer)

Footprints - RCJQ by nostatic-trio-plus on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

And the 3-some

Awesome!

Have you ever played a baritone guitar? I don't know how to explain it. It's something between a guitar and a bass, except it really sounds like neither. I guess it's played more like a bass, but with a pick, and no chords. Anyway, here's a converted Gibson EB my luthier friend built as an example. Strings are 13-70, with a plain 22 for a G string. Freaking beast of an instrument..

Yeah, I had a Danelectro baritone for awhile. It was tuned B-B, so you could play the exact same chord shapes as a regular guitar but they were just down a 4th. Since I have a low voice and generally capo up a guitar and sing an octave low I figure it might work to just play songs "as written" and it would be in my range. Ended up being too much low end mud though. Playing chords on bass requires a little different approach than on a guitar, and baritone is the same deal. That is one reason I like the high C. I can play voicings that sound good and still be able to hit bass notes. Very fun instrument...

The Fodera is a beauty. Hard to believe this is your first C-string.

Three beauties, in fact. Blonde, dishwater blonde and a redhead. Looks like you need a brunette.

That is a beautiful bass guitar.
Me Want! I am still only a four stringer. The five is on the bucket list, only no C but a low B.
I would have strap-loks on that baby.

The middle is an ebony ramp. It is removable but comes that way standard. It is designed to force you into a lighter touch as you can't really dig in underneath the strings. First bass I've had with one and it is interesting - I've adapted quickly.

This is also 33" scale and 17.5mm bridge space with "small" frets. So it is a very quick playing instrument. It does have straplocks (Dunlops) - they are recessed in the body. That's how Fodera does all their instruments.

In action:
