Must...have...bling...

Halos are so 2010. I'm going to plaster my cars with LEDs.

yea HID projectors and even retrofits are now a thing of the past. full LED retrofits is where the cutting edge is going to be at.

besides those projectors SUCCCKK ASSSS. can't compare to $40 ebay headlights to good projectors like morimoto or valeo's

I like the factory HID's in my (gulp) Mustang...IMO, they are superior to the H-1's in my old 911S. But the aftermarket stuff with "smoked" lenses? Bah! Why people wish to downgrade light output is beyond me.

And yeah..I think "yeller" lenses on a 911 look just plain stupid...

Porsche-O-Phile 01-22-2013 09:50 AM

It's rather sad that auto regulations have become so restrictive to the point where the only things left for "hot rodder" types to modify are exhausts (cat-back fart cans only! Don't run afoul of the CARB Nazis!), headlights, wheels, paint schemes and do-nothing "aero" kits.

A shame, really. Destruction of innovation and pedagogy due to the NannyState overreaching. I remember as a kid getting more "oomph" out of ones car earned attaboys and respect for the understanding so gained. Now it'd earn me a summons for the sane tweaks probably.

Factory HIDs are phenomenal, a real safety feature for nighttime driving. Aftermarket lights are usually terrible, and some are simply dangerous.

Good point...and we allowed it by electing the wrong types. Those who hate cars, wish to place everybody on bikes & mass transit. (except themselves, of course.)

That said, there ARE CARB legal mods that can be done to enhance performance. It's just that it's tricky while the old mods from years past were easier.

Check out this modded Bullitt Mustang. Yes, it's street legal, gets driven to club events, goes on long (over 500 miles) club tours, etc. Of course, he has more $$$ in this car than most here have in their P-cars and he prefers drag racing over twisties. To each their own...

There's plenty of CARB legal mods available, they just cost more money. It's California and the government, it's all about money.

LOL! Some truth in humor. Talk about a "blingy" look!

Already got one. Pre-bling of course.

That seems to be the rage of the day - a blinding strip of LED DRLs either in the headlamps or lower bumper. All of the new Porsches just have a little strip of LEDs in the lower bumper that looks really tacked on.

pwd72s 01-22-2013 11:14 AM

I'm looking for the Germans to drop that look & come up with something different, now that the Japanese econoboxes are doing the same.

Valeo seems to be a name associated with the water-pumpers.
