I've asked this several times with out a good answer
So I figuted that I'd ask on this side.
I have an 87 930 and have wondered how much oil passes through the engine at idle, at 3000 RPM etc Finn |
It depends on which oil pump you have, and what condition its in.
|
Yes we do have long winters in this country..........:eek::eek:
|
Since it's a positive displacement pump the amount of slip is negligible and the pumping rate is equivalent to the displacement times rpm.
So all ya gotta do is figure out how much space is between the gears before and after mesh. Iffn you doan like math, pack it with grease and roll it over and see how much squeezes out ;) |
I was looking for ball park numbers, just a general idea, is it 10 lt./qt per minute? Is it 30/min @ idle?
Finn |
dunno, but you could either test a pump or see if it is in Frere's book
|
It will empty the oil tank/system in less than a minute if a valve cover is left off! I had that happen at a shop that was servicing our 1987 930 but it was caught in time before damage!

Hey Scott,
You get that Jag on the road yet? |
Jack, ya its ready to go, just waiting on some warmer days.
|
I could look it up, give me the deets on the engine.
|
stock engine, 3.3 lt. 60K miles

Thanks guys.
