Looking for help - US Robotics USR8700 NAS
 

I have one that apparently has a bad board and looking for a replacement so as to recover data on the hard drives.

Or - anyone know of a unit that will read the hard drives?

I think the hard drives are un-damaged and the data is there.

How did you have the storage set up? What level of of RAID?

If you did not have RAID configured on the NAS, it could be as simple as picking up a SATA to USB adapter and copying the files off.

Paul, thanks for the reply. It was set up as a RAID 10.

If its RAID 10, you will need to get the unit working to get the data off. If the drives are indeed good, I would bet a data recovery service could get your data back, but they are going to charge you $$$

Is the device visible on the network?

I am looking for a new or used USR8700 unit that will run long enough to get the data back or knowledge of another similar device into which I could put the hard drives for getting the data back.

Finding a new or used USR8700 has proven very difficult. Tried ebay, craigslist and other web options to no avail.

I don't believe its visible on the network. At least its not accessible.

I have been told that it has a "bad board in the 8700" and that the hard drives are probably not damaged.

If it's like Netgear, you should be able to connect disks to Linux PC and get the data off. Did you contact their Tech Support? RAID 10 is nothing but Mirroring & Striping. Thus, you only need one half off mirrored drives to recover data.

Usually, it's some sort of Linux used in the back. Thus the file system should be ext3 or such...
