The new orleans pelicans?????
New Orleans Hornets Reportedly Set to Announce New 'Pelicans' Nickname and Logo
By Alex Kay(Featured Columnist) on January 23, 2013 The New Orleans Hornets are finally getting a nickname that is fitting and unique to the area that the basketball team represents. According to Yahoo! Sports’ Marc J. Spears, the organization is going to officially unveil a major mascot change on Thursday, as the team is set to become the New Orleans Pelicans. As per Spears, the name and logo will go into effect for the 2013-14 season, with merchandise availability not yet announced. This also comes with a color change, as the team is reportedly (h/t Spears) ditching the gaudiness of their current digs and switching over to flashier, more modern colors. It’s a welcome change for a franchise that never elected to adopt a unique moniker upon moving from Charlotte to New Orleans in 2002. |
Not to get off topic but how can the madri gras (I don't know how to spell it) and the Super Bowl be in New Orleans (spelling?) be at the same time?
First... the Madi gras in itself will take up the hotels. Now the super bowl comes at the same time. Who was the fool that figured this out? It is going to be a problem for sure. Me.. I put a $100 dollar per night on a room. I have heard that when the oppertunity knocks... Foolish patrons will be sleeping on floors for a grand per night. Oh well... I will watch the highlights of the Madi gras and the super bowl on my antenna TV. Cheap ass, I guess. |
They are not the same time. Super Bowl is on the 3rd, Mardi Gras is on the 12th. Most of the tourists come in the weekend prior for the big parades which puts them basically a week apart.

That would be mardi Gras. The carnival season has already started and will go on a bitafter the Super Bowl. Either way I'm not going to New Orleans for any of it....
Do they really think renaming the team is gonna help them win???? |

The parades have already started, but the biggest /best parades are the weekend prior to Mardi Gras day.

Most of the locals stay away from the city during MG. I live in Slidell, just north of the city, we have a few parades each year. The only one I attend is the boat parade which will pass behind my house tomorrow.

Only reason I go to NOLA is to race my kart. and right now I will skip a couple weekends
