Flying 17,500 feet in altitude can simultaneously "see" 15 square miles and still resolve something 6 inches on the ground

Stores/streams 1 million terrabytes a day

The imaging system is the equivalent of 368 iPhone 5 camera sensors operating at once

That's it. I'm getting into the tin foil hat biz.

Flat Six 01-24-2013 07:57 AM

That's amazing . . . and a little scary.

They could have taken hi-def footage of the girl on your roof!

mikehinton 01-24-2013 08:14 AM

If I knew when they'd be overhead, they could get high-def footage of me flipping them the bird!

Watching me, they'll die of boredom.

Life is so full of things I used to do. :(

"Used to" is just another way of saying "I did this" which IMO is what life truly is! Its all about the experience ;-) and you my friend have had more than your share! There are men that read about exploits and then there are those who are written about...your the latter big shooter.

And just think - that's what they allow to be released to the public.

"All seeing eye"...

Well isn't that special?!?

Some 18 years ago I was with a company that made photoresist chemicals for micro-electronic fab. At the time we were doing real small geometries that wouldn't see commerical apps for 10 years later. The stuff we did was DARPA funded. At the time it was classified and frankly seemed impossible at the time. Today its common. At the time there were a few applications that were used for sats and some for the results that theye shared in passing were nuts! I mean they could take a pic of a golf ball logo from what one would consider space. And that was stuff spoke in pirvate passing.

I can only imagine what is going on now.

Years ago it was said that there were satellites that could read the date off of a coin laying on the ground.

trekkor 01-24-2013 10:50 AM

It's pretty much common knowledge that the technology used by the public today, are declassified military "hand me downs" from the previous decade or later.

And you believe that?

Considering the technology that is public knowledge, this would surprise you?

apriliaguy 01-24-2013 01:39 PM

I remember a article in time or Newsweek i the early 90s about a satellite that could read the second hand on a watch in the middle of a sports arena.

Yes.

Their disinformation campaign is working.

And no, I can't tell you how I know.
