The other on the set for comedy central show Workaholics. The other is with my nephew flying it at the lake. I want to trade for a porsche 911-912 roller preferably but a 917 replica I don't know. |
From what i have read/seen the laser 917's are not worth that much. They are not exactly 917 replicas as much as they are kind of 917 looking and may contain a VW motor or a Porsche motor. It all depends what the hover craft is worth. I would bet you can sell the hover craft for enough to get your self a 911 or 912 roller, and that may be the route to take. If you can drive the laser and you like it, and its worth about what the hover craft is, it may not be a bad trade.

yeah i know. i was just reading some articles on the laser 917, i really dont want to dump some money into that car......it has a corsair motor in it. i prefer the 911 roller

There is no such thing as a project that one does not "dump" money into. I would be willing to bet its worse with kit cars. Who knows what parts came from where, with the laser's there is no such thing as "original" so who knows what to replace it with. That can cause a really big headache down the road. It sounds like the thing to do here is sell the hover craft and get it to at least, partially fund your 911/912 project.

The only one I've ever seen in the flesh was in 1974 in a Houston suburb. Guy drove up in it and parked it about 30 feet away from me across the street from our house. I was 10 years old and thought it was the coolest car I'd ever seen.

Well i dont know what i was thinking

There was one for sale here locally on craigslist for $3500, I think. The guy actually advertised it as a "Porsche". It looked really bad.

Want a Porsche? Stick with your original plan. Heck buy a 912 or 914 or 924 or 928 even if they don't run or are constantly fixing it at least you can say you have the real deal. |
If that was my ersatz 917, at the least, I'd have to change the color and do something with the wheels. Looks like your hovercraft is ready to r .r. r. r.rumble!
|
I would find the Laser embarrassing to drive. Stick with the hovercraft, or, as others have said, use its sale to begin your 911 project.

These things are embarassing. I can't think of a car I'd rather not own more than this one. It looks like a 917 to a blind man that has never seen a 917. It's built on a VW base, so you get an astonoshing lack of structural stiffness and all of the rattles that come along for the ride. The fiberglass work is awful, the interior materials make a LazyBoy look like a king's throne and it's probably slower than the VW Beetle that might have donated a drivetrain. It's what gave kit cars a bad name. Run away, as fast as you can. JR |
