I Made A Woman Cry Last Night
I have a gig at a small Bistro in town a couple of evenings each month. Two hours of me and a guitar, singing some of my own stuff and covers from the 60s to present. I try to keep it mixed up, with a rotation of some sentimental stuff with some faster tunes.
After my set was through, I was having dinner with my wife and a fellow came up, apologized for interrupting my supper and thanked me for the music. I recalled he and a lady had been dining together at a table not far from my wife. After I had packed up for the night, I was speaking with the owner and she asked me if I recalled the couple. When I said I did, she related how she had noticed them sitting, not eating or talking and went over to inquire if everything was alright. The woman had tears in her eyes and told the owner she was caught up in the ambiance. The music had gotten to her. The owner was impressed. It's nice to touch someone with the music. (Hey, Musicians get the chicks!) Les

Congratulations on making her cry. I don't think I've ever said or typed those words before, ever in my life.

Which is better, making women cry with your music, or have them throw their panties at you while you're performing?

With my wife sitting between me and the other couple, I'd rather she cried. ![]() Jake, I'm not sure. It might have been Stan Rogers' "Lies", or Rod Stewart's "You're In My Heart", or maybe a song I wrote about how a friend of mine met his wife, thirty years ago. I hadn't really noted the time or what I was playing, nor was I aware of when the owner went to their table. I'm pretty sure it wasn't "Heartache Tonight" or "50 Ways To Lose You Lover" ![]() With a bunch of conversations going on among the 16 tables of diners, I am not a floor show as much as (she said) ambiance. If you are listening, you'll hear. If not, I try not to intrude. "Music hath charms to sooth the savage breast." Maybe that's why I like to play there. If you're ever in Annapolis Royal, check out Bistro East (bistroeast.com). If you're lucky, I won't be there that night. ![]() Best Les
