Totally freaked out and spooked right now.
One of my long time customers died in his sleep on Thursday night. Last night, after a long weekend of putting that wretched motor in, I was laying in bed with Traci, and I was just starting to tell her that so and so had passed away. She has heard me speak of him over the years. Mid conversation, with her, I heard my cell phone ring out in the kitchen. I missed the call, and it was late, so I did not call back, but It looked like what I thought was my deceased customers phone #. She asked who it was, and I told her that I thought it was his #. She said, " no way, that is spooky, right as we were talking about him"
I had forgotten to check the # today, so I just now redialed the #. Blamo, it was his company cell phone. It could have been a family member checking over his last few calls, as we had just talked recently , but it was weird that his # dialed mine after 11:00 pm, on a Sunday night, right as we were discussing his death.

Logically, it is probably as you say; their family contacting the people on his phone list. But yeah, pretty creepy!
I don't go for supernatural stuff at all, but every now and then something will happen that is hard to nut out with logic.

My mom passed away when I was in Navy. I came home on emergency leave while she was still in the hospital. The night they took her off life support I went to the house, but my dad stayed at my sister's. I was laying in bed just trying to process what had just happened when a hat that had been hanging on the corrner of mirror (probably untouched for about two years) fell to the floor. Totally freaked me out as I was staring right at it when it fell.

When my brother and I were very very young and living in Brisbane, my brother told mum that "Granddad came and said goodbye last night" (he would have been 2 or 3 years old I guess). Mum reassured him that it wasn't possible as Granddad lives in Sydney (some 1100km back on the old roads).
10pm that day she got a phone call from Sydney to say that Granddad had passed away peacefully during the night. More recently, my remaining grandfather (turned 90 last year) had heart failure and was rushed off for bypass surgery. He was crash carted about four times on the table. When he eventually pulled through and was wheeled into recovery, he was lucid enough to speak (even though he was only vaguely aware of what was going on). He told me that he had some weird dreams and that in one of them he was pushing through a dense jungle, and came across a regular house, with a regular door, and he really wanted to go through it. When he did, he was inside his old house from years ago. Then another dream where he came across a huge stone wall like a European castle, but in the side was a regular house door. He went through it, and it led to the recovery ward of the hospital. It freaked the heck out of me! He fought in WWII in Borneo as a tank commander, and used to tell us war stories about the jungles there, so I do wonder if it was a combination of many old memories. But still... very creepy.

One of my longtime ex-g/fs was a hospice nurse. Passing over to the other side is a natural journey and just a bit spooky all at the same time. Fred, as I mentioned in another thread...you do have some "doozies" to tell

Don't be freaked out. It is hard to determine all the ways in which people communicate. Such occurrences don't seem unusual in my family.
For instance: Sister#3 was speaking with one of the ministers in the charge a few years ago and he was relating how his marriage fell apart after his son died in a motorcycle accident. He said it was a hard blow to both of them and in their grief they went in separate ways. He also said he got some consolation through his former next door neighbor one day, when she called and asked him to come over, as someone had something to tell him. When he arrived, she introduced him to her Sister-in-law, who had asked her, out of the blue if she knew a young man who had died. The S-I-L described the fellow and said he was wearing a leather jacket and helmet. She said he wanted to tell his parents "he was alright and they could stop worrying." The neighbor felt she might be talking about the son who had died and called the minister in order to put them in contact. The minister said this had been a great comfort and had helped him move on. Sister #3 asked him a bit more about the circumstances and found out the identity of the neighbor. Then she realized: the neighbor's sister-in-law is our Sister#2, who had been visiting from Ontario. In '87, my Dad had an accident and had been run over with his tractor (fractured pelvis, crushed urethra, prolapsed bowel) and was in Intensive Care. The accident had happened the week before, I had made the drive (3 hours) to visit on the weekend, but had gotten off work early on Wednesday and was looking for an update. I called the hospital, they put me through to the IC nurse who said, "We can't give you any information, but his wife is here. Would you like to speak with her?" then seconds later, "We have to keep this line clear!" and hung up. Later, I got filled in on the circumstances. Dad had gone into cardiac arrest. Apparently a clot from the wound site moved. Mom said the alarms went off, she was hustled over to the Nurses' Station and there were three nurses and a doctor working on Dad. After a while she was allowed to return to his bedside. Dad remembered it this way. He said he was above his bed, looking down on the people working on him. He said he could see a cane by the Nurses' Station and felt, if he could reach it, he could walk out of there. Then he woke up in bed again. Why did I choose that exact moment to call? Co-incidence? Sure. Life is interesting, isn't it? Best Les

How weird!
I'd chosen not to believe in things like that but life insists on reminding me all the time that I'm wrong. I mean who really knows ![]() |

I was with a close friend when his wife died 22 years ago. He had been at the hospital for weeks on end, so his brothers and I got him away from the hospital for a few hours. We were at his house and the phone rang and someone told him that she just passed. We turned off the TV and it turned right back on as we walked away, it happened twice and he swears it never happened before. So it was a bit freaky to all of us at the time.

I was an oncology nurse and hospice nurse for over 12 years. I never really believed a lot of that stuff. Let's just say I believe now and have lots of stories to tell.

My father died suddenly and unexpectedly in 1989. I was at my first night of a TDY for USAF aircraft flight training and was sound asleep in my Visiting Officers Quarters room. At 0210 I suddenly awoke, sitting bolt upright in the middle of the bed. I had sat up as I awoke. No sheets, all on the floor. I looked around in the dark and saw the bedroom I grew up in. I thought how weird, but soon realized I was in the VOQ at the training base. I realized I was sitting up and thought that was weird too. Looked at the bedside clock, 0210. Hmph, and laid down and went back to sleep. Checked-in at the squadron in the morning and they solemnly said I needed to call home. Uh, okay. You can use the phone in the commander's office. Uh, okay. (No clues getting through.) "Hi mom!" She proceeded to tell me that dad had died overnight. So, I was out of there for a week and drove the 100 miles to my mom's (and second husband--dad remarried too and they all four got along great) and learned that he had died "a little past two a.m." Mom, I woke up suddenly at 2:10! I thought I was in the old house in my bedroom! My mother, who was tough and NEVER shed a tear, looked stunned. It all came together. I must have woken up as my dad died.
