Unfortunately, I think it's the new Palm.

If you look back, Palm introduced a great product, but it was too late to the game and couldn't get enough momentum. HP stepped in to get the IP rights and launched their own tablet, only to firesale it and withdraw from the market a short time afterwards - in spite of having a very nice OS that was probably better than the Apple mobile os at the time

I have an iphone and a good friend has a Samsung galaxy - they are pretty much the same and not different enouogh to get either one of us to switch over to the other. Why would I even consider a BB10?

I think the biggest problem with Blackberry is that people have become familiar with itunes or the android equivilent over the past 2 years. I have an iphone, my wife has an iphone, and we have an ipad that both us and the kids use. We have all of our movies, pictures, music and apps on itunes and they can all sync to each other - What could Blackberry possibly offer that would make me want to switch? A better camera? nope. Better messaging? nope. It would have to be a lot.

I think that's what a lot of the analysts and BB10 supporters have missed - even if it IS a better OS installed on a sexy new device, people are not going to jump ship that easily because they are too invested in their current ecosystems.

The other thing I keep hearing is the huge amount of IP rights that Blackerry controls and that it's worth a ton of money. I don't buy it - both Apple and Google dominate the current market inspite of the patents held by BBRY. It's like saying yeah, those new-fangled cars are pretty cool, but the're suckers because I've got multiple patents on buggy whips...

My business (?!) chose BB for the enterprise/exchange/security stuff. In the last few months they've approved Iphones and Android is coming. They're pretty uptight, but if those guys are OK - I don't know anyone who won't be chucking the BBs overboard.

btw - the BBs were significantly neutered to make the "powers that be" happy. In other words - useless. The iOS stuff was allowed with everything as long as you used some specific security application. You get your music. You get all of the toys...

Market was pretty tough on them today.
I'd like to check one out. Looks like it will be another 6 weeks before they hit the streets in the USA but available here in Canada next week.

Now that most companies have adopted BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) plans, Blackberry's dominance of the enterprise market is over. Plus, consumers think it’s antiquated and "not cool."

The patent stuff is worth something to somebody, but not sure who and at what price. It seems the patent wars have died down lately; they could have gotten a lot more for them 12-18 months ago.

Well, I sure hope it makes a come back...will never see the dominance it once had

at 20% plus of the market share. But they are still popular phones in some parts

of the world (India is one I think).

Lets hope a North American company can excel at this game once again. I

switched back to the company BB Torch after getting tired of my ever fragile and

temperamental I-Phone.

If BB had a few of the specific things I need (Gas Buddy, Google Maps) I'd be using a Torch. I rarely use my iPhone for music. And I certainly would prefer a physical keyboard.

This all being said, I'm switch to the Galaxy S4 when it comes out. I need LTE and I want the more open OS that Android provides. I've used Android tablets for about 2 years now and it has more capability than iOS.

I have owned an iPhone and I have had a few Galaxies now. Android lets you do more with the product you bought, whereas Apple actively prevents you from using it how you choose.

Both companies overtly and covertly gather user information and movements with no opt-out. Apple for their own purposes and Google for targeted advertising and so on.

For privacy reasons alone I am hopeful the Z10 is as useful as the iPhone/Android phones because I will be getting one if it is.
