Roadtrip to Southern Indiana

We're leaving on Friday and driving to Evansville, Indiana to pick up a car. My experience is Pennsylvania is mountainous and I definitely want to avoid that on the way back.

Any suggestions for the best route (least hills and mountains) between NYC and Evansville?

Southern Indiana has some nice roads. No mountains some curvy stuff. They just opened a new corridor to Evansville. I would say just stay on the interstate system and that would be your least resistance route.

I assume you will end up coming west through PA to Ohio on the turnpike then turn southwest as pass through Columbus, Ohio and not pass through my area (Toledo, Ohio).

Indiana is one big speed trap. I'm going to Evansville tomorrow or as the local call it Heavensville.

I-90 Turnpike through N.Y. and the edge of Pennsylvania, into Ohio. At Cleveland, pick up I-71 South to Louisville Ky. to I-64 West to Evansville In. This is the route I would take in February.....no screwing around, get there get the car, and get back home with no curvy, twisty roads that might still have snow on them (wait till you get home for testing the car out on curves).

+1
That's the route I would take too. I-70 west from Columbus to Terra Haute and south on the two lane might be a little shorter, but may not be faster. Either way, you'll be close to Lissy and I, so give us a call. Just make sure you don't hit Cincinnati at rush hour.

When you make it to Indy, take I- 65 south to near Louisville. Then take I-64 west to Evansville. Great road and no traffic. From MA, it's your choice. Have fun. Indiana has some nice twisty roads but not any you'll be on.

Thanks, looks like a good route. Car has already been tested out on curves. It didn't do too well.

It would have been great to meet you Fred, I was looking forward to seeing a few folks along the way and have a great adventure over the weekend. I just got word that the hitch I'm getting for my wagon won't be in until Friday which means I won't have time to modify it and install it. The wagon can tow over 5K pounds, but you can only get class 1 hitches for it; class 2 are sold only in Europe. It looks easy to weld in additional supports and attachment points to the hitch, but it's a day long project.

Thanks again for the suggestions, just going to have a carrier pick it up instead. So bummed!

This time of the year, no way in hell. I have an account just west of Syracuse it can be down right terrible driving I-90. Even I-80 can be horrible in the winter. I'd take the Pa. turnpike also. Stay as south as you can. I drive those areas all the time to accounts and wouldn't if I didn't have to.
Good luck!!

Dang just saw your post. I'll tell you Shaun I think it's just as well. If it was a summer, fall, spring trip I'd have gone with you! But in the winter it's a very tough ride.
