"more and more asian every year."

If this was true it would be a compliment. That car is just ugly and on top of it it looks cheap.

tchanson 02-07-2013 06:23 AM

Much better:

I think there’s no question globalization has had a (detrimental) effect on automotive styling. But there are other factors that contribute to this era of the generic car, most notably the quest for aerodynamic efficiency and advanced safety. It’s often said that cars no longer look their nationality, and I wholeheartedly agree. German cars no longer retain the sensible, conservative teutonic aesthetic we all know and love. But why? Some of the most iconic BMW and Mercedes Benzes were styled under the leadership of two Italians (Ercole Spada/Bruno Sacco), both preceded by a Frenchman (Paul Braq) who had his hand in a couple iconic models as well (600, 280SL, W108/E23 7 series).
I think it’s the change of personnel in the studio, the globalization of style and design, that has changed the game. Not only in the automotive field but in my line of work (architecture and interior design) as well.

I would gladly drive one of these. Someone please buy one in manual so there is at least one on the used car market in a few years.

Exactly.

Those pictures are better. Not great, but better.

They should have given it more of a trunk - like the 6-series GC. Instead they bring the rear window to the rear of the car.

They are obviously trying to take a cue from the old Audi GT, but it does not work with the rest of the car, which is more "organic".

No I am not a hair dresser, nor am I gay, or any other of the stigma's that go along with driving one.
My avatar was a dare/joke, before you go there.

Amen brother. I've owned some cool cars, but my Boxster is tops if you look at pure driving fun. If I didn't need a daily driver that seats 5, I'd be driving one today. But I'm comfortable in my manhood and don't need a car to artificially augment it.

Hopefully it fails in a smoking ball of fire. Anything less and I fear BMW will continue to produce similar crap.

It's a BMW. I predict they'll sell a million of those..here in LA alone.

Evidence that they are willing to rip off lame and played out styling cues from other cars.

funny i looked at the first pic and thought that this is really grim, really really grim. Then I saw the other shots, I didnt know the boot opens fully on the GT. Based on that I would be much more interested in this car - the silver one at the start is clearly a base model. I wanted a 3 series saloon but very few have folding rear seats so I bought the touring which is brilliant but still an estate.
I totaly get the fact that the 3 series gets over praised. But they are good cars, i have had mine 3 years get 60+ mpg on the motorway and the dealer has been amazing and the service is always good compared to some run of the mill brands!

pavulon 02-07-2013 02:07 PM

Does it appear to anyone else as a 3 series Panamera?

And the F31 (3er Touring) is not available in USA yet.

They should bring in the F31 with the 116 HP /192 lb/ft 316d diesel turbo-four. 4,5 l/100KM is 52 MPG.

They would own the segment.

I see (looking at the euro site) that the 5er Touring is available too! Perhaps this means a replacement for the outgoing E61? Also comes with a turbo-four diesel with 218 PS. 44 MPG. Wow.

The earlier pics don't proportion right. Later pics make the car look almost as big as a 5'er.

It looks better with the tinsel.

Mazda quit importing the Mazda6 4 door hatchback to the US due to low sales. I think it's a better execution of the concept than the BMW.

Here's a pic of a BMW 3 on steroids. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360283245.jpg No it's not a 3 series, but a 635. I hate the new BMW in this post, looks like so many other cars out there. BMW is either way overboard, or way underboard.
