+1 Lots to see there. You could easily spend a week there.

I was in Detroit about 10 years ago and found the people nice and courteous to visitors. The roads on the other hand left something to be desired (lots of couches and ladders on the roadway made for some swift maneuvering.:D) Visit Woodward Avenue so you can brag about it to your friends. Overall it was a very pleasant couple of days.

During my stay in Detroit I had more fun outside the city in Livonia, Royal Oak and Birmingham. One of our exhibitors was robbed at knife point right outside cobo hall when I was there.

There is some amazing architecture left over from yesteryear.
Some neighborhoods are just sad.

Don't get boxed in at a light, and check out gas stations before pulling in.

As a very small child. I remember going to Hudson's downtown with my mom and brother. Hudson's Dwntown was a department store. It had elevators with black guys in white gloves! Furs! Glass cases full of shiny stuff. And the people! People everywhere! Rich people all in hats and gloves and woollen overcoats with fur collars. Even the men!

Then there were the Thanksgiving Day Parades. The majesty and magic of it all.

This would be 1960 or so.

I'm kind of sad to hear this. Detroit seemed like a nice city when I was there but that was around 10 years ago.:(

As long as you stay right near(+/- 4 blocks) ball fields it is nice, they maintain a literal army of officers in that radius. Venture outside of that and you're f'd.

I remember going to a Thanksgiving Day parade, and standing outside of Hudsons...this was about 1970 though.
