Shotgunners. What is this (pics)?

My stepdad carried this on his keychain forever. When he passed I just felt like I should do the same. I bet he has a bunch of them. What us it for? Just a tool to determine what gauge you have in your hands? Isn't reading the barrel safer? I always thought it was a choke gauge. I can't google gun stuff from work. They give these out with new gun purchases?

Looks like the Invector to me. Can still buy them new for about $10.
