It's an '82 S10 pick up.I'm tying to sell it for a friend. It has less than 2000 miles on a rebuilt V6 (reciepts available for all work done) New battery, new tires. Standard trans with air conditioning (blows cold), tilt wheel. Body is straight with original paint except for lower quarter panel behind tire. Original upholstry on bench seat. Trailer hitch and camper shell installed.

That's a pretty steep asking price even with the rebuilt engine. How many miles on the rest of the truck?

I have fond memories of an 84 (IIRC) I owned. Bought it for $650 with 160k. It threw a rod at 180k. Sold it for $450. :) It was an auto though. The stick definitely is a big plus.

2.8L V6 = future broken crank.

I bought a prestine example with a broken crank in 1998 for $500. I had a hell of a time finding a core engine to rebuild because a high percentage of these also had broken cranks.

I eventually found one, rebuilt the engine and trans and sold it for $1800 several months later. This was 15 years ago... How could a similar truck be worth double now?

Yep, unfortunately $3500 buys one about 20 years newer with some miles and a lot better engine.

Those were made here in the Shreveport plant. Pristine ones down here fetch about $1500, tons of them at the 1K mark. Fun with a SBC.

Kevin - not saying this because I'm interested in buying the truck, so "no dog in the fight."

That price is REALLY high for a 2wd 2.8 V6. If you can get that for your friend, good on ya, but if your friend needs to sell it, something in the $1,500 range is alot more realistic. Maybe start at $2,000 and work down. These usually sell for less than that, but aside from being a little on the ratty side (cracked dash, steering column damage, seat covers, cheap wheels, hideous canopy...) the body itself is very straight. To the right person, that alone will sell it.

If the tags are expired, that will be a bad thing as most people will assume it cannot pass California emissions. Your best money on this one is to clean the filthy engine bay, toss the floor mats and run a polisher over it. That paint will polish up very well.

$3500 is way too high. We've owned two. They are damn good little trucks though. The first one had 250k on it when we sold it and the one thats at our house now hubs is fixing up for his sister for lugging around militarty gear. For both we paid a total of $1500.

The truck overall looks nice for its age (over thirty years old.) I owned an 82 with the small (Isuzu) four and a stick a while back in similar patina. I paid around $850 for it and proceed to use it as a work truck. The interior on your friends truck is very similar to mine (faded plastic door panels, cracked dash.) I further understand that getting the motor rebuilt was expensive and he would like to recoup some of that cost.

Don't know the market in your area but around here the only (nice driver) survivors of that vintage have been converted to 305's or 350's, have new paint, custom interiors, tubbed rear-ends, and are selling in the $6k to low $10's range based on amount of custom work they have had done. Your friend may find a buyer at that price but he may also want to come down just a little bit. I have found when you scan the market (which granted is difficult for an original truck of that vintage) and price right in the middle of market, you usually sell a lot faster. Good luck.:)
