Snowmageddon 2013.....
Just curious as to how things are going further up north. Seems the media always hypes it up to an unrealistic level (Snowmageddon to borrow a phrase from the Onion.)
Post your totals and how snow clean up is going. I would rather hear from someone who is experiencing it then the isolated few incidents reported on the news. |
Stopped at the grocery store for a sandwich @ lunch.
Bread and water shelves are already completely empty...you'd think the end of the world was near? |
I've got a shovel

Every time it snows, the local news has to run the grocery store BS.
Bread and toilet paper seems to be the products no one in my area can be without for the 1-2 hours when the roads may be slick. The requisite shot of Penndots salt piles soon follows. My storm prep includes liquor store, beer distributor and Nardone's pizza. Agree with 911Saucy, end of civilization as we know it! |
The Weather Channel, in their persistence to be idiotic and name winter storms, has dubbed this one Nemo. LOL.
Their reporting, BTW, borders on totally irresponsible. A few tidbits from their website right now: ALERT: Historic, Crippling Blizzard Ahead Devastation Ahead When Will It Hit? Warn Your Friends Get Ready for Nemo I know that it must be difficult to make weather 24/7 interesting, but trying to incite panic doesn't seem like the responsible approach. |
Get your cases of water. Remember SNOW is NOT water and is TOXIC!
You'll need it for the 12 hours you might be at home... |
I'm going golfing.

Milk, bread, and eggs seem to be the must-haves for an impending snow storm. Is everyone planning on subsisting on french toast? I did the grocery shopping today, and the store was nuckin' futz!
Christ, you'd think we lived in Bumfuch, Wyoming and couldn't get to the store for weeks, with the quantities of stuff people were loading in their carts |

Sprinkling up here off and on. Thinking about stocking up on toilet paper. |
With enough beer in the fridge, most things will just work themselves out.

I only can think of three big winter storms in the last 60 to 70 years around these parts. One in the 50's that produced 5 feet of snow, one in the mid to late 70's that shut down the whole state, and one in the 90's that dumped 3 to 4 feet of snow. One big storm happens around here every 20 years it seems. Back in the 90's we were homebound for a week at most. Most people panic and drain the shelves of water, milk, bread, tp, snow shovels and road salt. Retailers love it when the storms get hyped because they sell all their supplies in short order.
This storm has the makings of a medium size storm. If you live in the affected area I wouldn't go out tomorrow until it is safe. Pay a kid to shovel your walk (after it's shoveled.) Sit at home safe and secure and enjoy the day off. |
Done. Started sprinkling right when I finished.

A Bottle of Patron and Box of Padrons
I'm GTG :) |
This should be perfect. Headed to main for a snowmobile trip with my buddy and should arrive just before the snow...as long as I can get out of Chicago tonight.
