Identify this Airplane Rudder
 

I was posting in the "what do you collect" thread and I took this photo of an airplane rudder I have. I have no idea what kind of plane it is from. Here is the story. When I was a kid (think 1970s) we used to pass this house down the road that had an airplane in it's back yard. It never moved. It was an old fabric covered taildragger missing its wings. What makes this most odd, if you know anything about Bergen County NJ, you know, there really is no place to land such a plane now a days which makes me assume it had been there for a while. I know there was an airport in the west of closter NJ near what is now the reservoire (I saw it on a VERY old sectional).

A few years ago, I passed the house and I couldn't see the plane anymore, however, there was construction equipment getting ready to tear the house down. I looked over the property for the airplane parts and found this as well as some other parts. I grabbed the rudder and was going to go back the next day for some of the other cool parts...unfortunately, everything was gone the next day I came back (house and all).

Anyway, can anyone identify this? I know it really isn't worth anything, but it is a reminder of my youth.

I believe it is off of a 1946 Bellanca 14-13................So you stole it?

Stole it...hmm, I never thought is was stealing as the house was being knocked down. There were no valuables on the property, so I thought of it as abandoned but interesting point. This rudder, I found it leaning up against a fence under some leaves.

Good call though, this seems like a pretty good match.

Still, it doesn't look like a perfect fit as the top arc is more gradual than the Bellanca and the bellanca rudder seems wider. Still, its pretty darn close.

So I can conclude that it is now a hot piece of tail........:):):)

No counterbalance on the rudder, the swift has a counterbalance.
