437 Porsche on eBay right now!

As of July 15, 2002 there are 437 Porsches on eBay. This is an all time record, and growing. As an economic indicator this is not a good sign.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!

I was too slow to do a screen capture last week, when there were 356 :-) I don't think the high number means anything more than it's summer and lots of people are switching. Saw a guy with a '56 Speedster idling in front of the Esquire theater yesterday, the first time I've seen a real one being driven. Nice.

Mostly 993'3 and 996's

most of these are lease returns..from the "dot-com" day traders. I've heard most of these day-traders are now ordering/leasing Mini's.

We are on a downward spiral with no visible end in sight. America is being pillaged at a rate that would make Genghis Kahn blush, yet the ruling party and Corporate America are still trying to convince everyone to buy a new SUV and home entertainment system. How much longer can our economy survive paying the corporate ruling class outrageous salaries and bonuses and laying off the workers? Our jobs are being exported to the East and South, but nobody seems to notice or care. Sure, each laid off worker is one less customer, but it's someone else's problem for now. The Fiorinas and Lays are only concerned with the short term gain, and then on to the next victim.

Ain't capitalism grand?

(I just doomed this thread, didn't I?)

I'll let you know if capitalism is great or not after 3pm PST, when our CEO lets us know if we're going to have layoffs or not...

Boxster for sale! Any takers?

Capitalism is grand! I'm an engineer. Not rich by any stretch. However, I have an SUV for my wife, a Jeep for my college age daughter, a BMW for my other college age daughter, a Honda CRX for my daily driver and an '80 SC for fun. Also a ski boat, jet boat and jet ski. Under almost any other system - socialism, communism, facism, tribalism whatever, an engineer could hope to have maybe a 20 year old rusted Toyota Corolla and a moped. Yea there are some crooks out there - politicans and CEO's are some of the worst, but the wealth accumulated under capitalism is unrivaled in the history of mankind. Even our poor people have adequate housing, food, transportation and some "luxury" items. Capitalism is not perfect by any stretch - the freedom to make money also allows for a level of dishonesty, but overall, forget about it. You don't want someone else to decide how the money gets doled (and I do mean doled) out!

Yep, with the great market timing done by our friends at Porsche Inc. , another SUV is introduced.

Good luck,

I agree with others that the number of Porsches available on eBay could be a seasonal thing. I would also add that eBay is a growing marketplace and the increased number of Porsches available could also be the result of this growth. eBay has critical mass, and there may be no better place to put your Porsche where it will be seen by so many eye balls!

Regarding politics on a Porsche board:

Perhaps next we can debate religion and its influence on Porsche ownership?

Best to you all,

Kurt

I would rather drive the Jeep, but I have a 110 mile commute round trip and that little go cart gets 42 mpg!!! Although it does get scary trying to avoid the pick up trucks in Houston.

Before I became convinced that everyone was trying to fire sell their assets I would consider how many of those cars are coming off leases. Boxsters in particular were a pretty good lease deal and I am sure that is producing an over-supply. Who wants a used Boxster?

Rather than just turning in a leased vehicle it would make sense to take a stab at selling it yourself. I think it is simply that more people are aware of and comfortable with eBay as an option to sell a car. And I would guess most of us are only tracking the increase in Porsches. How about Mercedes, Jaguars, BMWs and high end Japanese cars? I am not concerned enough to check.

IMO, Porsche should focus on adding a less expensive car to their lineup. Let's face it: a $40k+ Boxster cannot be considered an 'entry level' car at any economic state!

They've done it successfully in the past with the 912, 914, 924, and 944 cars. I do not consider the 968 as an entry level car either! Maybe they can produce a coupe based on the 986 platform, put a little 200 hp supercharged / turbo charged 4 cyl (or keep the Boxster flat-6), and sell it for under $30k.
Maybe even put the engine in the front! (GASP!)

It's working with other car companies! For example:
1. The Mercedes C-Coupe is selling very, very well. (Shameless plug for my company!)
2. BMW: The New Mini is a killer deal on a decent handling car.

So: that's my solution for our current economic climate: Porsche should produce a less expensive car. Now, you want to hear my solution for world peace?!?!?

when a topic is "moved" where does it really go? really its still there if ive found it,, and the fact that its "moved" with bold font its really more visable. is this one of those "if a tree in the woods falls and nobody is there" things?

my mom always said theres no such thing as a stupid question,, that however is not what my dad ever said.

The way porsche has always been, an "exotic" car company. A company that is known for making high-class expensive cars. When someone hears porsche they think, luxury, speed, style, expensive. I don't really see porsche making an "entry" level car for a while. I would think that they would want to keep the image they have now and not want to move into the style of a "common" car company.

But, if the economy were to keep going down and they needed money, then I could almost see them eventually making another entry level car. To try to boost sells and make more money. Not yet though...

It's just my opinion...

Hello

How was that: Good createt all man equal.

Now how comes that only 1% from man hold 90 % from worth wealth.

And a big error from most people is seeing the Porsche as luxury item. OK a well built car designed for long duty cycles is a luxury and the end for world capitalismn

Porsche will not move to the lower marked segements.
They ain´t have a cheap mass produce orientatet platform to use for such a car. OK if they use to share a platform with VW/Audi they could produce a Audi TT again

Grüsse
