Question Best Video Game System?

Looking to purchase a video game system but not up to speed on the lastest technology:

1. PS2 or other
2. PC based CD

Ultimately looking for racing games that offer selection of tracks and car setups. Any recommendations welcome.

Their are currently 3 systems out right now, they are the PS2, X-Box and Nintendo GameCube.

I own the PS2 and I love it! The graphics and games are great. You can also play DVD's on it without anything special. PS2 has the racing game, Gran Turismo 3. This game is the best racing game you can buy. And the game only costs 20 bucks! Also, you can play all the old Playstation games on the PS2.

The X-Box is incredible. My best friend has one of them and I have play some of the same games on both systems and the game play is the same, but the graphics are a little better on the X-Box. Cool thing about the X-Box is, their is a ton of memory so you can load songs onto it from CD's and play them during games. And you will never run out of memory space, like you could on a Playstation memory card. For like 35 bucks you can get a special adapter for the X-Box so you can play DVD's.

The Nintendo GameCube, well, to tell you the truth, I don't know much about it and I don't really want to. From what I know, I don't like. Their aren't that many games out yet, the actual games cd's are like half the size of a regular cd so their is no chance of being able to play DVD's.

Sorry for rambling on.

I am glad I bought my PS2, and I am going to buy an X-Box before the summer is over. If you were to choose just one...I wouldn't be able too.

Good luck,

HTH

I would go with a PS2 or Xbox, the game cube has really childish games. myself i would go with Xbox for Gothem racing. but thats just me, or PS2 is good for GT1-2-3.

I have X-box. It's pretty good and I recommend it. But now I am thinking about getting game cube. They have been coming out with some good game titles and it is faster than the playstation 2. But it does not have the graphics to compete. But Resident Evil does look good though for the Gamecube.

Thanks for all the input. My neighbor has a friend with a PS2 - hope to have opportunity to try it this week (he has GT3).

- What is the Typical cost of games for each system?
- What are your favorite games (racing, action)?

Typically the games cost about 50 bucks for each system, but Playstation has something they call "Greatest Hits". They are the top games and they make the price 19.99 Gran Turismo 3 is one of these games, thats when I bought it.

Favorite racing game is of course GT3. On X-Box they have Project Gothem Racing which really cool. You get points for sliding around turns without hitting walls. Its a lot of fun, specially two player.

"Medal of Honor-Frontline" just came out for PS2, this game is the greatest war game, IMO. It is so much fun and looks really realistic.

Both X-Box and PS2 have basicly the same sport games. One you get a system let me know what sports games your looking at and I'll tell you if I like it or not.

HTH!

I would go for a PC based system, for a few reasons.

1. Online play. Consoles are starting to support this, but as I understand it, they are still in their infancy.

2. Patches and mods. The publisher of PC games often have add-ons or expansions that can be downloaded. Also, many PC games are "hackable" in that talented people can make their own add-ons for the game, that for one reason or another the publisher wouldn't/couldn't include. For example, the weapons mods for the "Rogue Spear" series of shooter games, and all the extra cars and tracks for Sports Car GT.

3. Online play. Racing or shooting up your friends is great fun.

4. Voice support. This is an addition to the online play part. There are free voice over internet programs that allow you to cooperate with /ridicule the people you are playing with/against. They run in the background, and work pretty well. I used to do 4 way Nascar 4 races, with voice, players in Northern California, Detroit, Chicago, and St Louis. Very cool.

Just a few thoughts.

Tom

Awesome - I hope to try my neighbor's friends system sometime next week as well. Send me a personal email and we'll get together after this weekend. Just finished installing some harnesses in the 911 for the DE this weekend.

The other day I decided I would go out and buy an X-Box to go with my PS2 and let me tell you, I have absolutely NO regrets. This game system is incredible. If you have the means, go out and buy both, so you have the best of both worlds.

Next toy on the list, surround sound system.
