Refreshed 2014 Toyota Tundra -- taking on all-new Ford and GM
Do these styling changes (no mechanical changes) in the first refresh since 2007 make it a contender against all-new offerings from Ford and GM??

I like it, but I'm not sure about the grille. I need to see more photos or see it in person. Any interior shots? New powertrains? We chose a 2012 F150 over a Tundra because for the same money we got a loaded XLT as compared to a basic base model Tundra, more power with the same mpg, equally good to drive trucks, and similar levels of quality. I typically lean Toyota but couldn't justify it in this case.
Btw, I hate the new GMC/Chevy. I think they're ugly inside and out, obviously their design guide consisted entirely of of squares. They also still don't have a full sized crewcab. But the next gen SBC does sound like one heck of a motor. |

![]() Nope. Zero change. Still the same 4.0L V6 with 5 speed auto, 4.6L V8 or 5.7L V8 with 6 speed auto. Quote:

Then I can still get a Ford with the power of the 5.7 with the mpg of the 4.6. That's a shame.
Regarding the crew cab, I'm aware that the GM trucks offer a crew cab. But at least from the photos I've seen they still aren't nearly as spacious as the Ford or Toyota, which offer enough space in back for three adults. I do like the Tundra dash better. I never cared for the weird mid-dash color change. |

![]() Mile wide center console encroaching on the driver and passenger (and this is coming from a fairly skinny guy), and that dreaded CONSOLE SHIFTER IN A FRIGGIN TRUCK!!! AAAAAAARGH! G |

What kills me on the Tundra (besides the fact that I need an HD or Super Duty) is the lack of a full sized bed on the crew cab models. Same with Dodge on the Mega cab.

Don't like the styling at all. Call me loyal/patriotic/stupid but if I'm shopping for a new full size truck it's going to be domestic.

Here, 2014 Silverado. While it has a generous console, it isn't a mile wide. And the auto shifter is where it belongs on every automatic vehicle but at least automatic truck, minivan and SUV.

An I the only one that finds the GM interior to be hideous?
One thing that hurt the Toyota was the lack of bench seating options. Even basic option packages for stuff like power driver's seat required an upgrade to buckets. We needed the bench to have an extra seat when needed, and were able to get a pretty loaded Ford XLT with one. |

That is rancid, WTF?
I LOVE Toyota and have a Tundra but that thing is offensive. Then again all the newer full-size trucks are equally as filthy. They are just too big and butch.

The Chevy interior is indeed horrendous. The wide open accessory inserts make me laugh, reminds me of an 80's Buick.

I do a lot of work in San Antonio where they build the Tundra's, very cool plant....
Yes Matt, I agree, that interior is horrid in my opinion. The far left part of the dash looks like someoe stuck it on sideways. |
