Ladybugs....gimme a break!
 

Any of y'all have ladybugs inside your house? I never see 'em except during the winter months when the temp gets up on nice days...then they accumulate on a south facing upper palladium window (and that's the only place) during the daytime and then disappear later if I don't vacuum them up :D. I suspect they're coming out of a heating duct, though research indicates they're coming in from the "outside" somehow. My house is sealed "very" well, so I don't get "it" :confused:. It's not an every year occurance, but I've been waging a "vacuum war" these past few weeks...half a dozen or so every day. One time about 10 years ago I came home to probably a hundred of 'em on that window...I like to think I'm "winning the war"...at least that's what I keep telling myself :)

ps: To be clear...I know ladybugs are "good bugs"...I just don't want 'em on my window. Though they don't really leave any trace or cause any harm, I sure don't want to see 'em multiply like bunny rabbits again either.

I think that depends on what bug you're talking about. "Assassin" bugs eat lady bugs. Sometimes, during the spring, we will get thousands of the things (ladybugs) on the side of my garage. Not many get in, but the vacuum helps.

I assume you're talkin' about "punkin' bugs"...I've only seen them on a rare occasion here, but they do "hang" at my parents' house along with some other "critters" that congregate on one of their south facing glass storm doors (outside at least).

Send them to me. My son loves ladybugs. Would keep him amused for hours. We don't have too many where I live so he goes hunting for them.

I've got 'em already packaged up and ready to send....where do I mail the vacuum bag :D. Seriously, if I didn't know they would "get out of hand", I wouldn't even bother 'em..."live and let live" ;)

I'll bet they are not lady bugs but faux ladybugs, Asian Lady Beetle... I have the damn things also 1,000's of them for sure.

Adult ladybugs will seek shelter for the winter in and around homes which are a source of heat. If it gets warm enough they become active and thus a nuisance. Gets cold again and they hunker down. It's called nature. When spring arrives they will head outdoors to continue their lives as aphid slayers, thus the beneficial designation. As KC911 says, "live and let live".

The best reason to get rid of them is that spiders eat them, including the brown recluse.

I too bet they are the Asian variety. When we moved into our current house they were everywhere. In the attic and coming into the living areas through any crack or opening. It was so bad we had birds pecking holes in the walls to get at the bugs.

The next summer I caulked along all the seams and openings outside. They will find their way into the walls and attic. But if you minimize access it will help.

About 10 years go, my dad got into Organic Gardening. Decided to try to raise his garden without any chemicals, fertilizers, etc. He did a lot of reading about pest control in the garden using natural products to ward off undesirable insects. He read somewhere that Ladybugs were natural predators and would keep your garden basically pest free and not harm the vegetables, etc. so he found a place and bought a pound of live Ladybugs to spread in the garden. Garden was pretty big, but he really didn't need a pound of the creatures, so he gave about half of them to me and said "spread these in your landscaping, you won't have any bugs..." So. I. Did.

The rest is history. Get them in the house twice a year, bunch of them, but only upstairs in one room. Pest control folks have come and gone...no change. They freak out my kids and piss my wife off because they die and make the vacuum stink. I've learned to accept it.

On the up side, I don't have any other bugs. None. Zip. Nada.

Guess my Pop was right, but it comes with a price.
