2013 JD power Vehicle Dependability Study -- Some surprises
2013 Vehicle Dependability Study | J.D. Power
This is a study of 37,000 owners who purchased their 2010 vehicles new and what problems they experienced in their third year of ownership http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360805081.jpg Top Cars: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360805267.jpg Top Trucks: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360805287.jpg |

What is very interesting is the lack of spread in this distribution. Does an individual owner actually feel the difference between a Lexus and a Chrysler in terms of going to the shop? On average the Lexus person goes in once with a problem, the Chrysler twice, over the time frame studied. (2 years?).
Thanks for sharing. Generally this shows that all new cars are quite good. G |
No surprises on this list, my mechanic buddies at the caddy dealer say the 2012 CTS is a just a mess of rattles and other assorted transmission problems. That one car probably dragged them down.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1360808179.jpg The 2010 CTS ranked higher than all but the ES350 and MKZ Higher than the BMW 3 series Higher than the Mercedes-Benz C-class Higher than the Infiniti G37 Higher than the Acura TL Etc Etc |
Didn't miss them at all because they are irrelevant to Cadillac dropping several positions from last year. Unless you're suggesting that BMW and others are supplying parts to Cadillac or something? Because I never mentioned them.

My Lexus GS is getting long in the tooth (06), but it has been rock solid. I lost the alternator at 92K miles because it was caked with oil from a cam seal leak (fixed when timing belt done). If plan on keeping this for my daughter to drive in 6 years. My buddy has a 420K mile 91 LS400, stock engine and tranny.

??? they didn't sell very many Honda Crosstours or Toyota Sequoia's ....how does that figure in? or does it matter? Thanks for posting, very surprising.
|
And the question of how to define "problem" raises its head. Is it something major, like a blown engine, or something niggling, like a squeak from the dash? I'm really interested to see Merceds-Benz and Audi so far up the ladder and BMW so far down.
|
How could "Ram" be near the top and Dodge be at the absolute bottom? Isn't Ram just a model of Dodge? WTF am I missing here?
|
aaah. Dodge in their rightful place.

"SRT" is also separate from Dodge |
I have heard through the grapevine that JD Power is pay for play, and it was basically started on a "or else" premise.

Just saying, lol, btw I do trust Your opinion, seem like a non-biased dude.
|
They would have a higher budget than others, no? Lol
|
And we're planning on a Land Rover LR3 to replace the Discovery we sold...haha.

Matches my experience with BMW and Ford. BMW better get their act together soon - embarrassed BMW owners are starting to publicly grumble about unreliability and cost of repairs. The BMW "boutique maintenance and repair situation" is an expensive joke with parts swapping mechanics instead of informed trouble shooting. $300 to bleed the brakes - they are plain nuts.
Just the opposite with Ford - trouble free operation and minimal maintenance after a decade of moderate use - at 80,000 miles the brakes are still within spec thanks to my easy driving wife. Nothing much except oil changes (Swepco) and a couple of transmission fluid and filter changes, |
My family's Fords have all been excellent.
I've had 2 modern Porsches, a 986 and my current 997S. Only problems have been really minor. Broken window switch, front trunk release switch. They both rattle and squeak like hell. |
