Spectacular car. I'd ditch the cobra emblem and the air filter cover top with the extra emblems and stick a plain air filter top on the thing. The finned aluminum Offy valve covers are cool.

The trans was empty along with the diff. If you buy something like this you would have to reseal the whole car before you can ever drive it.

But yuck, the '78 pace car is the best of the worst corvettes ever made. Most of the vettes from the mid 70s until the 80's were pretty bad. My dad had an '82. I liked the silver over charcoal two tone and the integrated spoilers front and rear as well as the aluminum slots that were stock. Other than that, the power in the late 70s and 80s was horrible. I think my dad's was 205hp when stock. I think there was a 1980 or 1981 california emissions version of a corvette with a 350 that only had 180 or 190hp.

Yep, my uncle had a mid-'70s Corvette that he left with me once when I was in HS and he was out of town. Not a bad looking car but just pathetic in terms of performance. It was a 350 automatic that just felt completely choked and could not even spin the tires in the rain. The cheapest new Chevy Aveo or Kia could probably just walk all over that car.

Well there are several other corvettes in the garage. All are low hp models. A 57 fuel injected. a 60, 61 and 62. Not sure of the mileage of those. There are 3 Pace Camaro's. A 67 & 69 (both have around 2,200 miles on them and a 82 that still has the plastic on the passenger seat and around 125 miles on it.

The owner of these cars had a Chev dealership and when a interesting car to him came in he would take it home and park it in his garage (it's about a 50' X 80' building).

There are lots of low mileage "special" cars out there. They show up when the owner dies and the kids sell off the junk.

I did buy 2 vehicles like that and they did need a quite a bit of work but was worth it. The vehicles where not as protected as this one. As far as the removal of the valve covers and and stock air filter housing I was just thinking that yes we use to do stuff like that. No one back then was worrying about retaining these items. Who knew what these vehicle were going to be worth in there stock form.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo.../smileysex.gif
