likes to left foot brake.

Had a grey T type years ago, was a fun sleeper.
The old grey Regal would out pull the BMWs often. Just not so fun on high speed sweepers. My buddy Neal had his tuned where he could drive anywhere and then run 10s in the 1/4 mile. |

Just a little earlier than the GN, no air, no power doors or windows, bucket seats, Posi, FOUR WHEEL disc brakes, turbo, when I owned it they did a six page spread in Hemmings Muscle, 79 LeSabre Turbo, probably the only one.

That has GOT to be rare - don't think I have ever seen that LeSabre, nor any in the era with discs at the rear. Thanks for the share!

My first new car was an '87 Grand National. It was fully loaded and one of the last 50 made. I drove it about a year and sold it for about what I paid!

Nice $$ shot of Jack Cotton's "Great Pumpkin" at the end.
This video STRUCK ME IN THE HEART... Pre-911 ownership, I was (still am) a total power-added Buick Freak. Built my first one in conjunction with my uncle...his pockets are deeper so he went faster...but these cars are wickedly bada$$ and super fun sleepers. Had been to all Buick National events, frequented Cooton's Performance up the road in Ma. Nothing like 650rwhp on a 9" street tire...in a car that drives like a truck. |

The silver Regal in the video at 2:28 is pulling so hard that it loses traction at the cone towards the end of the track!!! Yikes!

I have seen those GNs with wrinkles in the body like you would see with the hemis.

when I first got it I was doing some work on the brakes and went to the local parts store, the guy I had done business with there for years told me I didn't have rear discs, he said I didn't know what I was talking about, I told him I had the car on the lift and checked them out, he didn't believe me enough that he came out to the parking lot and crawled under. The GNs never even came with rear discs.

Buick pumped out some very rare cars in the 80's. Right now very few of them are worth anything. And some of them are stupid fast. I wonder if there are good buying opportunities out there. Recently on Ebay there was a Buick factory twin turbo engine like the one used in the 1983 Indy pace car. At $11k it couldn't get a bid. It was a 4.x liter (can't recall the exact size) 400+ horsepower. Bone stock factory prototype, the spark plug wires even had something that identified them as "Indy Team" or something like that.

With correct heads its easy to spot as the valve covers are fastened with a line of centrally placed bolts, where the stock 3.8 VCs are bolted around the edges. Asfar as rarity and buying now...do a little research on 100% stock GNX or just really clean/low mile GN sales. GNXs are regularly in 100k++ range. My uncles father (they own a dealership) has an '87 GN, 13,xxx miles...many offers over $40k and he won't let it go... Last edited by 911SauCy; 02-20-2013 at 07:24 AM.. |

Missed out on a 87 GN in 1996 by a day. 27K miles, asking $4,100. I couldn't go in alone for financial reasons and had my dad convinced, but for some reason my mother thought I would kill myself in it. By the time she was convinced it was a great buy, it was gone. It seems Mom always has a reservation about me and cars, even when I bought the 944 from my dad in 2001, she was reluctant to let me buy it.

Now the case of the WE4 Turbo T from 1987, this is a car that is more rare than the GN and faster too, they're not worth a whole lot. I just sold a roached out example for $2900. ![]() ![]() ![]()

The fact is many people like them however never driven them. That is the clincher. Have mine 20 plus years. Not selling! Hold on to these Buicks if possible. I was offered 19,000 for my GN it has 47 K on it. I just can't let it go.
