Am I being overprotective.....
My daughter is going this spring to her first convention out of town. She is 24 yo. My question is this. Should I/my wife be there some or all of the time to make sure she is safe in the hotel and outside of it? The convention is in the hotel so theoretically she does not have to leave it.Your thoughts? It is a good quality hotel....

Yes

24?...yeah dad time to relax a bit.
|
You are being WAY overprotective.
|
Yes, you are being overprotective. Possibly to the extreme.
|
24? I think my dad got angry if I called him more than once a month after I turned 21. Seeing each other at major holidays was just fine and we all get along great. Time to cut the cord.

Yes, overprotective.
|
Where is the convention being held? And what is it for? At 24 she should be able to detect danger on her own.

I understand the desire to protect your daughter. But she's a 24 year old woman. She can handle herself.
When I was 24, I was living in Detroit. |
Unless there are some special circumstances, by 24yo she should be able to handle an outing like this. At some point you just have to trust that she has learned how to deal on her own and let her go do it.
Wish her a good trip and ask her to check in with you to put your mind at rest. Then enjoy some quiet time at home :-) Cheers Richard |
hmmm.
you know... these sheltered girls... that includes the ones going to catholic school ... get wild when they go free range.. some have been known to have a Shirley Temple or 2... and look out... parteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee time....... I'd just check her for tat's when she get's home.. Rika |
At 21 I was turned loose to travel the country alone. Go to conventions, meet with customers, etc....
Hell I survived stumbling around downtown mobile drunk off my ass no problem. In what capacity will she be there. Will she have co workers or peers there? She will be fine. |
Yes, overprotective. It's hard to let go, but you have to.

While we are not close my step daughter is off to college (U 0f O)... She is a really good girl but... ya know... college.
I have really only know her for a short time (three years)... very weird helping her unload her stuff at college and catching the boys check her out (she is a cutie). Even more weird after living alone my whole life feeling the paternal protective mode kick in and want to slap some teenage boys upside the head [this just in, middle age man beat to death at local college!] Anyway, back to the OP... yes... at 24 she is an adult... still much to learn but she should know how to take care of herself and be safe by now. Particularly at a hotel where the convention is at the hotel. If I may ask, is the convention in Canada? |
is the convention in Beirut..or Juarez?
|
24!!!!!!!!!!overprotective! I thinking restraining order.
|
so..i gather she still lives at home?
|
Wow.
|
I was turned loose at 16...I turned out...hmmm
Send an armed guard! JK - she will ok, you raised her to make her own decisions. She may have a great time or she may make a mistake or two but her success and failure now rest on her shoulders. She will be fine... |
Vancouver fortunately :)
