I'd like to help iTunes.....

.....get its head out of its @$$. Somebody give me the name of the guy who wrote this program, so I can kick him in the side of the head.

I just downloaded some tunes I need to listen to for a recording project. iTunes refused to let me edit the files so I can show the artist's name. So......I caved and downloaded the most recent version of iTunes. So now......

The screen is different, I can't see the list of Playlists, and the new version won't even let me change the file into "ACC version" so I can load them onto my ipod or put them in a Playlist.

FK!!!!!!!

Yep. And they fall all over themselves telling you how much simpler it is.

I can't stand it.

My wife will gladly join you on your quest. She's VERY  right now.

I just pulled up my Amazon MP3 files and for giggles, tried editing track info (Artist, Album, etc) in iTunes 11.0.2 (64 bit) and it worked fine. I was able to move the track order around and edit playlists. So, maybe the problem is buying from iTunes. I also converted one track to ACC version.

BlueSkyJaunte 02-25-2013 08:39 PM

I buy from Amazon, too. No DRM, which means I can put the music that I PAID FOR on whatever device I like and listen to it without having to ask for permission from the ghost of Steve Jobs.

iTunes will not let me edit the names of the songs. It says it can't find the file. But it will play the song for me. But it can't find the files. I didn't buy the files from iTunes. They came from a studio and they need bass tracks.

I buy from Amazon too. Those files transfer to ACC okay.

iTunes is more about what the user CAN'T do than what we can do.

here is my list of tips (which likely will not help you)

iTunes problems

I. Empty Folders – album Songs missing
Delicate Sound Of Thunder (Disc 1) & disc 2 – pink floyd
In Square Circle – Stevie Wonder

II. Moving Songs to Correct Directory
- use iTunes; find Song Title in List & R-click – Get Info then select Locate it & go to the New Directory .OR. Select Tab Sort Order and fill in Album &/or Artist

Must correct entries in Apple Database.
In iTunes, find each song; R-click on it to bring up entries:
- Double-click on Song Name to bring up Browse Folder Window to locate where song is on disk
Compilation – uncheck
Album Artist – fill in correct artist
Album Name – may need to correct this – iTunes uses _ to replace a : in Album title

- what happens if you find the audio file itself and either copy it or rename it - then bring that in via Import?

You really should get a good audio program like Pyro Audio, that's your main problem. It's by a company called Cakewalk. iTunes is not good.

I can't say I'm a fan of the new iTunes either. And I second those that use Amazon MP3 instead of buying through iTunes, much better IMO.

Someone please tell me again why Apple is so much better then any other O.S.?
I bought my equipment and I can do with it as I see fit without the permission of Big Brother.

A friend of mine (who is a network admin) was telling me he hates iTunes the other day, and we didn't get into it but I was wondering how one could hate something as easy as iTunes. After reading this small sample of posts, I have an hypothesis. I think iTunes (and probably all other standard Apple software) is really great for people like me - people who have no idea what they're doing and don't want to do more than just use stuff. I am not particularly skilled with any OS, but I've not yet had a problem with any Apple product that I couldn't easily figure out with help from the internet, but then I haven't done anything that I couldn't do without if it became frustrating. I think you folks who know enough to get beneath the surface are the ones who run into problems, and maybe that's where Apple's advantage goes away. When it comes to intuitive ease of use, I think Apple blows any Windows product away, but I've also become accustomed to it, so maybe it's just personal preference.
Or are you using iTunes on a PC? Maybe there's your problem! ;)

wdfifteen 02-26-2013 02:59 AM

I think doublestuff hit it on the head. My completely electronics illiterate friend has no problem at all with iphoto or itunes, but they drive me crazy. I'm used to managing my files myself. I don't know how many images I've lost into the hellhole of iPhoto because Apple decided I couldn't be trusted to manage them.
One issue is the habits I acquired from decades of having to worry about storage and memory limits. I keep trying to conserve, but the OS acts like storage and memory are limitless.
The new iPad/iPhone OS assumes the user is big into social networking and it concerns me. Without asking for them myiPad made me a "member" of facetime (WTF??) and got an Apple email address. I think it was because I signed up to use iCloud, but I'm not sure. I just wanted iCloud for the storage.
I may be getting paranoid, but more and more I get the feeling that Apple and Google are watching my every move.

It WAS so much better. It was more stable and plug and play really worked. That hasn't changed, but Apple has overcomplicated the OS, added too many bells and whistles, and opting out of them is difficult, if not impossible.
I liken it to my dislike of modern cars. I'd love a BMW with great brakes, great power, great handling, heat and AC that work when you turn actual knobs on the dashboard - and no traction control, iDrive, climate control, etc.
Computers are the same. I'd love a Mac with modern speed, memory, and storage that came as a blank slate that I could configure with only the stuff I want and use.

must..........drink.........more........apple..... ..juice

Truly maddening!

They took what used to at least somewhat work and made it nearly impossible to navigate.

Updating your iphone through it is also a test of patience.

Seriously, wtf??

Christien 02-26-2013 05:00 AM

Everybody's complaining about the new itunes. My version is at least 2 old, and I refuse to update it because of all the complaints. That said, even that old version is a piece of crap. And what' even worse is that it's the only way to get music to an ipod or iphone. And my iphone is linked to my imac, and is only allowed to be linked to 1 machine (unlike ipods).

I can't stand itunes, and I can't stand my iphone. I'm sick of the lousy programming, the ludicrous restrictions, and the slow speeds. I'm going back to blackberry, and will check out amazon for music - didn't know about that.

That said, I do still like my imac, and for a musician, it's really the best option. Not as far distanced from PCs as it used to be, but still the best.

creaturecat 02-26-2013 05:05 AM

Not only that.
It sounds like ****.
