New Tires OMG!!
Not pretty these tires from the Michelin South Carolina plant doesn't need air ,no blow outs and guess what police nail strips don't work on them! Originally developed for the military. No more air compressors or tire valves. I believe these tires will be on the market soon. Please have a sense of humor.

Tweel. Good application of reducing localized hub transfer to suspension. Serious micro-engineering with infrastructure and demand is still needed for the US market share.
But suceptable to decay. [I would have spelled that correctly but FF doesn't believe in the queens english] I thought of that years/decades before. All the best to a viable product. |

They are incredibly expensive. The handling is sub-par to conventional tires. They run hot and wear out quickly.
When I first saw this concept (nearly a decade ago) I thought cool, that might work. But as they did more and more R&D and more testing, they basically backed off and nearly gave up on it. In other words, deep down the people who came up with the idea don't really believe it will work (be practical). Last edited by sammyg2; 02-28-2013 at 03:20 PM.. |

It works in situations where you can afford high operating costs, reduced performance, but increased protection from small punctures.
Considering how rare getting a flat is to the average driver...doesn't really matter. Btw, check out the deflection in that Audi shot.

probably only good for the military or civilian earth moving equipment, would be rougher than Hell.
