Or, better yet, Ardbeg Uigeadail!

Go to Scotland. Then go to a local pub in Edinburgh or Glascow. Be polite, apologize for being an ignorant American, buy the house a round and ask for the local choice and be amazed.
I was fortunate to have an uncle married to a Scotswoman who took me on that same journey. The best varieties don't get more than 50 km from the distilleries. Beware though, the bar will be a wee bit higher...

PS the same goes for Tequila in Mexico.

I like mine straight from the cask.

Laga16 is the queen of Islay, (the king is laphroaig 10, imo). I had peat monster once before and thought it was...whatever - but lmk what you think of it!

I just opened a bottle of JW Blue that I have been holding on to for 20 years.

My friends from Scotland daily Scottish water was Grants...I don't know what they kept tucked away in the glen hidden from sight though?

I much refer the luck of the Irish...Kapoughs Castle single barrel is my choice of Irish poison.

Dang - 20 years. Did the angels get their share? :)

My current favorite is Highland Park 12 year, serves with a splash of water.

Not really. I have two bottles (one of JW Red and the other Canada Dry Bourbon) that my Dad got from the then President of Canada Dry as a present back 1964.

I had some last night with some Cambozola, a good combo.

True to its self description, not the peatier but a balance between peaty and smokey.

Above my inexpensive DD (Islay Mist 8 years Blended) but not in the Bruichladdich Octomore class (about 4 time the price).

Maybe one day, I'll try the Ardberg Dark Cove Limited Edition: https://www.liquor.com/articles/peaty-scotch/#gs.VLlYHZw

Dark Cove is really pretty close to Uigeadail with just a few sweeter notes. Got a Committee release in 2016 and it is enjoyable, but for the difference in $ not enough change from Uige

Glengoolie. For the best of times.

Happy birthday, JJ!
I have been a repeat customer with the Bunnahabhain 12. Very nice for the price.
Also the Tamdhu 10 and batch 3 were great!
Have had a couple of the Macallan 12 double casks. Nice but not my fave.
Have an Oban 14 going right now and it is growing on me.
Smooth doesn't make them interesting!

Thanks Bill.

Is it me or the thread is not showing up under "New Post".

But it does show up in the "Off Topic Discussions" forum.

I did not win the lottery but...

I now own some land on Scotland West Coast. Until I finish building I'll stay at the B&B down the road from one of my favorite distillery :):D:)
