I was lucky when I was hit b/c I was in a Sube Outback when the idiot T-boned me and spun my car 180 deg. I was not injured except for being shaken up a lot and was able to restrain myself from killing her.

The thing to watch out for is if the city puts in the cameras and then SHORTENS the yellow time. I'd fight that. also, a big no on contractors who receive a percentage of the proceeds

In NY there was already an investigation on fast yellow lights it apparently was timed that way. I have to follow up on that story.

NYC Red Lights Quick And Fast | My Improv New York

It's no secret that the yellows have been shortened.

Funny story, at least for me. The husband of a friend sits on the city council here in Austin, and the council had proposed a resolution to dissolve any interaction with all companies associated with the State of Arizona b/c of immigration reform. It was all over the news for days. She was proud to announce on FB the day they passed the resolution, to which I replied "I guess we can kiss Redflex and those cash cow red light cameras good bye". (BTW, I listed several other companies with affliations along with the target)

Never heard another damned word about any disassociation with AZ and the city of Austin after that.

The red light cameras don't bother me as I don't blow through them, but it's not the appropriate way to approach the concern, when other avenues, which work, will accomplish the same goal.

Too much big brother.

Get a couple of red light tickets in Chicago when you roll through a right on red with zero cars around for a mile, or for coming up on a light and being forced to choose between a red light ticket and being rear-ended. Or trying to turn left on a yellow only to have an oncoming car run the red light, delaying your turn and making you run a red also.

Try those on and tell me you are in favor of red light cameras.

All three have happened to me and resulted in tickets for which I had just about zero recourse against.

Again, not advocating running red lights

As I said, I don't advocate running red lights. Sorry for your wreck, RWebb. My question was more about not paying a fine and having the goose-steppers showing up at my elderly dad's door with an arrest warrant and handcuffs.

I think the best way to fight it is to see if they changed the yellow light timing; some places have restricted discovery (yes, it's obvious they are using tickets as revenue sources).

It will use up a lot of your time to fight; the system wants it that way. Good Luck!

Thanks - Of 3 hits on me by cars, that one doesn't even rate in severity (!)

Probably my worst wreck was my fault when I ran a red light going under an overpass because I couldn't see the traffic lights hanging under the lip. I got T-boned by a huge mid-70s Buick Riviera (the kind with a 455 CID engine). Fortunately I was the only one on board and the car was hit on the passenger side. Obviously totaled (the car looked like a big U) but I only had a few scratches.

Not sure I could even mount a defense since it happened in a smaller town 620 miles away and several months ago. The car is about to be sold and my dad doesn't even have a driver's license any more. Plus he has severe memory loss so I'm not sure they would even try to do anything about it.
