69 Targa S value?
How the hell can an old Targa be worth 125K? Are they really that rare? Are all pre '74 cars destined to be worth big $$$? I thought they made a zillion of those things... maybe not?
Really interested to hear what the values are in Europe? Or is this an American thing? Thinking of picking this one up :) 1972 Porsche 911 T Targa - Restoration project |
It seems every longhood today is suddenly "worth" $50k-150k. I have no idea how this crazy market came to be. I wonder if it'll collapse just as suddenly.
|
I can remember when you could buy half-decent, complete early targas for $4k. And it wasn't during WW2, it was like 8 years ago.
Sigh... |

But yeah, I have a '69S Targa for sale in the mid-70s only because its a 'driver.' Easily $125-150K if restored. And if it had happened to be a soft window, add 20% to that. |

Of course I've been thinking about all the cars I didn't buy recently, like the "back of Panorama" quality black/black '71 911S sunroof coupe for $21k in about '04, (southern car, books/records/incredible maintenance and low miles), or the truly showroom condition black/black '73.5 targa with low original miles for ~$16k around the same time. That car was a targa and had CIS but when I say showroom condition, I mean it made PWD's car look like a swamp donkey. The bummer is not just the pricing today, it's that examples like I list above are non-existent on the market. Truly first-rate enthusiast or concours original cars NEVER come up for sale on the open market and they used to be available at all times. All I see are 2nd or 3rd rate restored cars with questionable histories or "projects", like the one we're all drooling over this week on this BBS. Cars like that used to be on eBay every day of the week for $5k. Oh well, that's life... |
All pre-74 cars are going up in value. Northern Europe is paying higher prices than the U.S.
I have no idea what mine will be worth someday. Right now it's a basketcase. But it's also a single-spec or one-off car. |

Look at eBay completed listings for '65 - '73 cars. Most are in red "reserve not met". Sorta tells me owners are expecting too much.
|
Yes, I had a '73 S Targa that topped out at $80,100 and did not meet reserve. Sold 10 days later for $95,000
Watch for the ones that 'come back.' They're the ones not selling. Some people just use eBay as a big ad platform. |
In 2010 I posted this:

Then about a month ago I started the thread below about it, they put it on e-bay and it sold for $71.3k and it was not in operating condition. Granted the 67 has a soft rear window and is vere rare, that might have added to the price. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/727774-missed-out-huge-barn-find.html |

since it seems like they are popping up all over this week, the prices will surely decline

I found this thread during a search and it caught my eye because I have a 69S targa I am going to sell.
Funny, seems like the conversation about early Porsche's and values has not changed much in two years :) Unfortunately for those who want to buy one the values have! |
Not to hijack the longhood thread but asking $38K for a plain 74 911 Targa? Looks like a nice well taken care of car but ???

People locally thought I paid too much for a one owner '69 Coupe at $2,000 about 8 yrs ago.....it runs well, BUT needs paint, interior, right side rocker and repair a rust hole under the passenger seat.......When in Belgium last summer, a small shop offered me $15,000 sight unseen........
