Get a Grip, (Spoon)
Bought a couple Uberti 1851 Navys. and wanted to personalize them. So I bought a piece of curly maple and carved out one set. Made them one piece from three pieces. They came out OK.

The last coat of oil is drying. |

Nice work... I love Curly Maple but it's expen$ive down here.
As a present to a friend I carved a hand grip for his old rangefinder camera from it. Great to work with. |
Nice work there.
|
Very nice! I'm good at bigger scale wood projects, but give me a chisel and I turn into a hack. I appreciate the skill required to do that, it's a true craft.
|
Looks great! :)
|
Good work there Buckterrier!

Don't worry. You have so many fantastic hard woods to choose from. What about Jarrah? |
Jarrah is almost too hard... It's great but it blunts your saws and chisels in no time.
I prefer imported hardwoods from Asia. (Box making etc) |
Slap my face, but I has a pile of it and chopped it up for firewood. Sparks were coming off the chainsaw and I thought I'd hit a nail. I wasn't, it was just really hard wood. One bit burnt for 23 hours in the wood burner.

Very nice!!!!!

WOW! Who knew you were so skilled? Great job!.
|
Very nice work. All you need is a web site and you got a business.
|
Holy smokes, Mark, that is pretty damn cool. Can't wait to see the finished product.
|
Thats looks like good craftsmanship there.:)
Just curious if your have any plans of doing a cartridge conversion or are going to leave them as is? |
NICE job. The great thing about curly maple is that it is the choice wood for silver wire inlay.

Thanks for the kind comments guys. They were fun to make. Certainly would have been quicker with power tools but non the less fun.
Jaunte I may just practice a bit and try. Thanks for the link, that is really cool. Not sure what the gig is. I took a pic of the grips on the spoon emailed to to myself. It's on my apple but it doesn't show up when I try to download from Pelican  I'll keep trying. |
