That is one long race on skis, congrats. What a success story!

Thank you all for you kind words!

My kids actually made a decent effort to act impressed, although there were comments about not seeing the point in it, given the fact that there are very comfortable bus lines between Sälen and Mora..

Yup, thats me in the blue dress. Almost all the way up the first 3 km long, steep hill. Packed as sardines in a can, slowly ascending. Just a little further up we passed a medical team in the process of giving a guy CPR. Passing them I got a glimpse of a mans naked upper body, big belly, as they were pumping his chest. Pretty scary and almost surrealistic view to see that when you are already pretty tired from climbing the first 3 km realizing you have just 87 km left..

congrats!

do you guys ever do long overnight ski trips over there? we used to ski up a mountain and then back down - took us 6 days

I've never understand why anyone would want to push their body to the limit for anything. I don't understand it, but hooray for Livi!

Yes, there are many great areas where you can ski from cabin to cabin during several days. Typically the actual skiing is done during daytime though.. :)

I know what you mean. I think curiosity was my motivation to a large extent. Would I make it and what would it feel like?

Also, the feeling when I came within a hundred meters from the finishing line was something else I have never really experienced physically or mentally. There, when it suddenly dawned on me that I had done it, I just started crying like a baby. It was dark, fires were lit along the finishing path and a big crowd was still cheering the last skiers - lifting us the final meters across the line - and me, crying my eyes out. People rushing toward me, hugging and cheering. Complete strangers!

That was an unbelievable completely overwhelming feeling of accomplishment. Worth absolutely nothing on paper, but inside me just about the most happy I have ever felt in my life.

Congrats Markes.
It this what has kept you away from the Stijn thread?

livi 03-13-2013 12:42 PM

Thanks, Glen!

Eh.. maybe not. Periodically I just seem to forget all about the English language. :)

Good job, Markus.

I'm trying to imagine your facial expressions during the event. Your you tube videos are a riot.

red-beard 03-13-2013 01:25 PM

The singing, skiing doctor!

azzarule 03-13-2013 02:04 PM

Congrats Markus, so does this mean that next year you are going to practice and get some conditioning to finish just a little fast and in better shape?

Think you deserve a beer for just entering, but to finish, wow, absolutely stoked for you!!!

And tell the kids to get off their arses and do it with you next year!!!

Tobra 03-13-2013 05:21 PM

Next time, take the kids with you.

It will be a most excellent memory.

Rick V 03-13-2013 05:30 PM

Way to go Markus.

RANDY P 03-13-2013 05:50 PM

Maybe next year Wayne will sponsor ya. You can hoof it with a giant Pelican on your back ;)

Mericet 03-13-2013 06:03 PM

Congrats!

ckelly78z 03-13-2013 06:16 PM

Somehow, I bet that next year, you will train a bit more than this year and have your own custom skis !

I gotta say, I could never do anything like that with a compromised heart efficiency, and reduced lung capacity, I would have been that guy at 3 KM getting medical attention.
