Kid asks Billy Joel if he can play with him during a Q&A.

This is awesome.

This guy asks Billy if he can play with him during a Q&A and Billy says ok. He then proceeds to blow everybody away.

daepp 03-13-2013 11:35 AM

That was so awesome. Apparently it happened in January and he was on the Today show today.

Indeed.

Put a smile on my face as the work day begins to come to a close.

Billy Joel is truly a star !! What a fantastic memory he created with the young man.

vash 03-13-2013 01:18 PM

i love billy joel.

we sure that wasnt staged?

svandamme 03-13-2013 01:25 PM

he can play, but i felt he was over doing the piano for that particular song.
Billie Joel plays it very gently...

mb911 03-13-2013 01:50 PM

wow awesome. love it

shadowjack1 03-13-2013 02:00 PM

That will look very good on his resume.

DUK 03-13-2013 03:18 PM

Actually made me say WOW.

Very cool. I could watch it a million times.

Of course he was. He wasn't playing to fulfill a boyhood dream. He was auditioning for you watching this vid. A great backup musician knows how to follow to make the front man look good. Billy Joel was a good sport and let him show out. His chops are good but he hasn't learned how to put some soul into it yet. He'll get there. It takes a lot of guts to do it and not choke. Props to him.

Well put. I was thinking the same thing. Billy gave him his room to shine. Class act.

Dang Cheese.....excellent video! Billy Joel is great as well as the kid. You really are the cheesiest! And I mean that in the best way possible. :)

Thank you!

Hard-Deck 03-13-2013 04:31 PM

What an excellent video and memory!

O'Grady 03-13-2013 04:34 PM

Just one more tour, please.

Por_sha911 03-13-2013 04:48 PM

Billy Joel really is an all-around artist: song-writer & entertainer and not just a musician. Not bad for a skinny kid from Oyster Bay LI.
That song and The Ballad of Billy the Kid are the best. Piano Man and Captain Jack are a close 2nd.

The back story from the kid....

That was cool but it definitely illustrates what a great artist BJ is. He does not have to watch his rear view mirror for that kid. ;)

I grew up with a true jazz pianist prodigy, if he got on that stage it would be a different story.

speeder 03-13-2013 05:33 PM

But yeah, the kid has balls. Props for that.

Doug E 03-13-2013 05:44 PM

Wow, talk about stepping up to the plate ... way to go !

i'm a bit confused as to the intent of your message here.

Jazz records dont let you nail Elle MacPherson and Christie Brinkley.

Lol...I think that traditionally speaking, jazz musicians have gotten more ass than a rental car. :)

sammyg2 03-13-2013 06:29 PM

In 1973 there were having a grand opening of a place called licorice pizza in the brea mall and they had some guy playing piano and signing autographs. I remember the year cause I had just moved to California.
I got one of the signed pics, he was good and totally cool but I had no idea who he was. Ended up tossing the signed pic later.
A couple years later he hit it big with piano man.

Good for Billy, total class. He coulda been a dick and blew the kid away but gave up his spotlight.

stealthn 03-13-2013 08:37 PM

That was awesome, thanks, I would have thought Julliard.

Billy still has some pipes too

bkreigsr 03-14-2013 04:55 AM

he can still hit the high notes on 'Innocent Man'
he was a little anxious during the Sandy concert - but pounded them out like it was 1983.

Guess I'm a little cynical, but would Billy really have done that in a room full of video recorders with no prior knowledge of this kid's abilities?

Good question but then why would you divorce Christy Brinkley, maybe he's getting the big "A"??:D

KevinTodd 03-14-2013 05:40 AM

Wow---awesome! Second musical clip posted inside a couple of weeks that made me shiver!

hardflex 03-14-2013 06:11 AM

I have to think there was some sort of pre-approved nods or winks done here because it could have been a disaster withouth them. Someone must have told him the kid could really play.

Billy Joel is underrated, imho

chocolatelab 03-14-2013 06:18 AM

super cool

I'm thinking it was a bit of a set up, but so what!

The kid had been spending some time in a recording studio in Port Washington, which is owned by a Sax player...... who happens to be a Sax player Billy has recorded and tours with

Billy is a good guy... I have run into him out east in the Hamptons a number of times... Seen him out in his boat etc.. He grew up in a Levitt house, in Hicksville... Suburbia USA, just a regular down to earth guy

There's an old saying. No matter how hot she is, somebody somewhere is sick of her shat!

onewhippedpuppy 03-14-2013 06:45 PM

Very cool.
